No, you don't have to like any given take, and you can dislike it for any reason that strikes you, that's cool. But "not faithful" or "not accurate" is, IMO, not a particularly good way to express that dislike.

They're doing it in our current context, to say...something. Something about our current context, maybe something about the ways our current context interacts with the ancient context, maybe just something about "armor and spears are cool."

So, you know, Homer has been dead a long, long time. And we don't even know who they were, or if they were a single person or many. That cultural context is long gone, and anyone adapting The Odyssey now is not doing it for Homer.
