I mostly will post about homelessness and politics, with occasional nerdy stuff.
Off to spend the week with leaders from across the country who are working with CAEH on building systems, data infrastructure, and governance that can create provable community reductions in homelessness.

This will be multiple days of intensive learning, engaging, and networking.

Did anyone else in Halifax or Dartmouth hear that?! I’ll tell you what it was when I’m sitting in my office.

Leaving Yellowknife in NWT this morning after reviewing a homelessness service provider to provide them with a path forward towards service improvement. I have loved every time I have been able to work in Yellowknife. This is no different.

I don't want to get political, but I answered all of my emails today, and none are unread. #worklife

Well, off to Yellowknife, NWT today to examine one of their shelters with a team of experts in homelessness and indigenous culture. Sometimes this job feels like pushing the rock hopelessly uphill. Sometimes it feels hopeful. This is a hopeful day.

Holy shit. Someone watching their videos on their phone in public was my age! I feel so betrayed. I was very comfortable blaming boomers and kids.

Another day, another time I have to listen to someone's video blasting on their phone.

Once in awhile, I get annoyed and complain that Canadian stereotypes aren't accurate.

Then I have breakfast somewhere with these forks.

I know people who voted UCP purely because they were concerned about a tax raise.

They are paying way more than any tax raise would have been (which wasn't on the table, really, BTW) in the various policy foul ups of this administration now.

It finally happened. I left a person on a reply to an email that shouldn't have been.

Nothing too embarrassing, but a lit less formal than I would have liked.

Edmonton to-be municipal political party PACE’s new logo revealed late yesterday afternoon at the official merger announcement with TAPYeg. About 100 people came to the event at the Derrick Golf & Winter Club.

Almost 90% of the exports #Alberta go to the United States. The Province where Donald Trump's policies are the most popular will be the place the hardest hit.

Here's how much Alberta exports to the United States
With the United States being Alberta’s top trade partner, sweeping 25 per cent tariffs proposed by President-Elect Donald Trump could have a major effect on the province’s economy.

Ending homelessness is possible when we work together.

Housing is a human right, and every step forward brings us closer to a world where everyone has a safe place to call home.

We got this.

The people in #alberta who want control of our education system also believe that the system is failing.

Alberta is 2nd in the world in science and reading, 7th in the world in math.

They have created a boogeyman, created a scapegoat (woke?) now are rolling out their policies to "fix" it.

Dragging an Indigenous led and operated org doing incredible work in his own constituency? What was he thinking?
Leave it to Tany Yao to use his member statement in the #ableg to slander the good work the Wood Buffalo Wellness Society is doing in his own #ymm constituency with the local Indigenous population. Always such a class act. www.facebook.com/share/p/19hm...

This is what happens when we violently rip down encampments, throwing all belongings away, all while having ZERO plan for where they can go. Where the F is our humanity. We as a society need to do better. Our provincial government needs to stop cutting the funding and programs they need. #ableg #yeg

During my keynote today at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan's Community Approaches to Housing & Homelessness Conference I posed the below to the crowd.

Is homelessness a choice?

Yes.

But we as Canadians make the choice, they just have to experience it.

When you go to a professional conference trade show - what are you actually looking for?

To network?

Find services?

Get new ideas?

Have fun?

What draws you in?

What booths have had you walking away thinking about them for a while?

A year ago, I wrote a review of Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts," an account of the US Ambassador to Germany's tenure there in the early-mid 30s.

I shared lessons from the account that feel more relevant now than ever.

Here is a snippet of them:

Just did something I hadn't done since I was a child to begin to correct a major regret in my life - I took a French class. It was stressful, but a little fun. We shall see how this goes.
