Always looking for better ways to develop software so I can share with others.

Code is my hobby. Also collecting Magic:TheGathering cards... One of these costs more than the other.
I had a test I couldn't see why it was failing. I paused TCR to work on it... TCR wasn't a problem though. The problem was I took too big of step. I didn't do the simplest thing. I knew where I wanted to go and I went there... and it made it harder.

Simplest possible. Sometimes we need reminders.

I'm lovin' the small steps. Once the TCR challenges to normal refactoring flows have solutions... things'll go smoother/faster.

Oh OH - my TCR script beeps at me differently depending on the type of result the test run. It's a little thing, but I like it. The idea is from a presentation James Shore did at #AONW beginning of March.

Also, in general, databag don't need tests. I'm TDDing everything, so it can't exist w/o tests... And there is a little behavior in this one.

I haven't pushed any code yet. I will when I have more than a databag.

I wrote a blog while I started working on it
quinngil.com/2025/03/24/t...

While the amount I coded last night was trivial (single databag), working in small steps, only focusing on the current tiny thing is amazing.

I even wrote TDD'd adding 'virtual' keyword to a couple properties.

It's one of the books I recommend the most. Definitely helped shape the way I code.

I became hybrid. I went in to have high level architecture and system design discussions at the whiteboard and wanted a desk for the rest of the time.

The ad-hoc conversations I get to have are also valuable.

All that is me and the things I'm trying to accomplish, def not for everyone.

I've been calling 'TheInterfaceThingy' an "alias interface"... It works... just wondering if others have better names for this type of thing. :)

I am convinced that some people have had their memory of 2016-2021 wiped. That’s the only explanation for this. WERE YOU IN A COMA??? Were you off planet? Did you fall into a hole and go camping under a rock? Did you miss all the pardons Trump approved??

A couple things that someone in the role is gonna need:
Able to drive change on the team.
Able to support the push for cultural change in the org.

There's some cruft we push back against; need more people aligned towards for making the engineering culture better.
