A snapshot of one shelf in my den of curiosities, featuring a collection of amber glassware, clear glassware, a set of shark jaws, a leather-covered bottle, a lamp made of a white crystal, a candle holder, and a set of clam shells.

Two views of a fairy ring encountered in 2024. I keep checking but so far it hasn't reappeared.

It's been really dry here lately so not much fungal growth to be found.

A few views of a tree stump well encrusted with bracket fungi. Sorry about the terrible pics.

A #CabinetOfCuriosities doesn't need to fill a room to be interesting. Seen here is a cloche filled with marine items - lobster claw, various shells and seaweeds, a sand dollar, a sea urchin shell, a stone with barnacles, and a mermaid's purse.

Today's #WunderkammerWednesday delves into the macabre practice of animal taxidermy, with this mounted specimen of the Goliath birdeater tarantula, late of the Dominican Republic. This is a smaller specimen with the body at 6cm long, and legs diagonally 15cm tip to tip.

A bit of whimsy from the old #CabinetofCuriosities for this week's #WunderkammerWednesday -- look away those of you with delicate constitutions!

Here is presented a vial reportedly containing dried merman sperm, method of collection unknown but no doubt a mind-boggling feat.

I don't know what it is but it looks tasty.

This week's #WunderkammerWednesday is a lovely example of pysanky done on an ostrich egg, and mounted in a plain wooden box frame for protection. A grand addition to any #CabinetofCuriosities.

Not a fungus this time but fungi-adjacent. Ghost Pipe is a parasitic plant that survives by sapping nutrition through the fungal web of mycorrhizae around tree roots. So... #FungiEnemies? Ghost Pipe is white because it doesn't use photosynthesis to grow.

Two trinket shelves for this week's #WunderkammerWednesday showing smaller collections of random objects within the #CabinetofCuriosities itself.

From my #CabinetofCuriosities for this week's #WunderkammerWednesday is this antique pocket microscope, also known as a field microscope as they were intended to be used in actual fields. Purchased from a local woman who found it in their attic. Likely dates from the 1850s.

Speaking of wire, here are a few pieces of wire #bobbinlace that I made years ago when it was all the rage (in bobbin lace circles). The oval piece is actually two parts and was intended as part of a larger doily. I never made any of the other rounds.

This one, with it's heart shape, seemed appropriate for February.

My, that week flew by disturbingly quickly.

For this week's #WunderkammerWednesday we have another pairing -- shadow box containing the horn from a male springbok, and a core from the horn of a water buffalo. #CabinetofCuriosities

The second entry is a variety of metallic rose, discovered in a Himalayan meadow. The petals could be shaped and cut just like metal foil. No cause for the mutation was ever discovered; it was speculated the plant drew up metals from washout of near-by deposit.

A double entry for this week's #WunderkammerWednesday include two preserved specimens of extraordinary blooms discovered by Lord D_ at opposite ends of the world. First a species of wood-like rose, found thriving on a peak in the Andes. Alas, attempts to cultivate it failed.

A hand-made fabric coin purse in the shape of a whale shark, with a snap band closure for the mouth, that I made for my nephew for Xmas. The whale shark markings were made with a silver gel pen.

Happy Solstice (and first snow -- and it was a doozy). I look forward to ignoring the snow in my driveway for the remainder of the day. More is expected.
