Christmas ornaments I made last year, also upcycled from toilet paper rolls.

Long detailed thread of instructions for making this tree ornament from toilet paper rolls failed to upload so here is the abbreviated version. Self-explanatory really but feel free to ask if you have questions if you have them. Also check out the ALT text.

Been making small Christmas tree ornaments using recycled materials (book pages and toilet roll cardboard).

A snapshot of one shelf in my den of curiosities, featuring a collection of amber glassware, clear glassware, a set of shark jaws, a leather-covered bottle, a lamp made of a white crystal, a candle holder, and a set of clam shells.

Have a gargoyle. Not enough non-cartoony gargoyles on Bluesky.
Happy Monday! Have a gargoyle from Salisbury Cathedral!

Two views of a fairy ring encountered in 2024. I keep checking but so far it hasn't reappeared.

It's been really dry here lately so not much fungal growth to be found.

Deep beneath your feet, two enormous blobs (technically known as BLOBs) sit at the top of Earth's core. They may be remnants of a protoplanet that collided with ours 4.5 billion years ago.

New evidence suggests they're still linked to volcanic eruptions today. 🧪🔭

A few views of a tree stump well encrusted with bracket fungi. Sorry about the terrible pics.

A #CabinetOfCuriosities doesn't need to fill a room to be interesting. Seen here is a cloche filled with marine items - lobster claw, various shells and seaweeds, a sand dollar, a sea urchin shell, a stone with barnacles, and a mermaid's purse.

Today's #WunderkammerWednesday delves into the macabre practice of animal taxidermy, with this mounted specimen of the Goliath birdeater tarantula, late of the Dominican Republic. This is a smaller specimen with the body at 6cm long, and legs diagonally 15cm tip to tip.

A bit of whimsy from the old #CabinetofCuriosities for this week's #WunderkammerWednesday -- look away those of you with delicate constitutions!

Here is presented a vial reportedly containing dried merman sperm, method of collection unknown but no doubt a mind-boggling feat.

This week's #WunderkammerWednesday is a lovely example of pysanky done on an ostrich egg, and mounted in a plain wooden box frame for protection. A grand addition to any #CabinetofCuriosities.

Not a fungus this time but fungi-adjacent. Ghost Pipe is a parasitic plant that survives by sapping nutrition through the fungal web of mycorrhizae around tree roots. So... #FungiEnemies? Ghost Pipe is white because it doesn't use photosynthesis to grow.

From my #CabinetofCuriosities for this week's #WunderkammerWednesday is this antique pocket microscope, also known as a field microscope as they were intended to be used in actual fields. Purchased from a local woman who found it in their attic. Likely dates from the 1850s.

Speaking of wire, here are a few pieces of wire #bobbinlace that I made years ago when it was all the rage (in bobbin lace circles). The oval piece is actually two parts and was intended as part of a larger doily. I never made any of the other rounds.

I think wire wrapping is #1 on my list of hobbies I'd like to try if I ever wanted to start yet another hobby that I don't have time or space for.

You've probably heard that "we are stardust," but this graphic breaks it down and tells you what kind of stars your dust came from--and which elements didn't come from stars at all. 🧪
