After providing information that led to the arrest of others involved in Liuzzi’s murder, Rowe entered the Witness Protection Program. Wearing a white hood, Rowe testified before Congress in 1975, revealing FBI knowledge and approval of his actions. He received immunity and died in 1998.

Rowe helped plan the attacks against the Freedom Riders in 1961 and is suspected of participating in several bombings during the Birmingham Campaign in 1963, including at Martin Luther King Jr.’s motel and the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing that killed four Black girls.

In 1936, Jackson (17) was helping provide care for family friend and Union veteran James Bolin (93). Because Bolin could not afford to pay her to help take care of him, he proposed to her so she could inherit his Civil War pension when he died.
