Enjoy Butterflies ,Dragonflies ,moths ,plants, casual Birder these days......not keen on mass "twitches" get a lot of pleasure from local sites (mid-Kent ) .Local history ,football (particularly non-league ) Love Orlestone forest +Dungeness.

Surprised to find a Betony plant still in flower locally ,and a rather scrawny (but just in flower ) Goldenrod + a couple of Umbellifers ,one a Hogweed.

Surprisingly good night in the moth trap last night ......getting near seasons end now. 5 Feathered Thorns ,2 Ferrugalis , 5 Autumnal moth, 1 Turnip moth , 1 Merv; ,1 Vines Rustic , 1 Pug (for ID ), Best ,and a first for me ,a Sprawler. Pleased with that one ! #mothsmatter#teammoth

Came across some very attractive Purple Fungi ,my first thought was Amethyst Deciever ,but to me they look more like a Waxcap sp; Violet Webcap (Cortinarius Violaceus ) maybe ? anyone have any ideas please . #fungifriends #fungi #Toadstools

just seen a Sibe Chiff posted elsewhere on Bluesky and it was very reminiscent of the one we saw earlier today (by the Aut ladies tresses site/pilot path junc) it was particularly pale,another chap took a couple of shots ,and also felt that it was "different" i,ll send a couple of naff pics.

At a warm (16 c) #Dungeness this morning was pleased to find two Clouded Yellows on the wing ,the one pictured ,a female was by the main car park and the other by the Long pits . Also found 3 Peacock ........but alas .....no hoped for late Small Coppers #butterflies

I wonder if any UK moth-ers out there recognise this Moth larva .I found it back in May ,it was around 25mm in length and appeared to be more or less fully grown ,and possibly a Sedge/Grass/Rush feeder. Out looking for Crossbills this morning in #OrlestoneForest ,very dull and windy conditions weren't ideal, but in four sections with Pines I found several small mobile flocks in 2 sections (3,25+,10,10,4,15+) also of note a brief flight view of a prob;Hawfinch and 2 Red Admirals #butterflies #birds

Around the local forest ,a few Toadstool finds ,surprised to find some emerging Fly Agaric and Magpie Inkcaps........thought that they,d finished ,yet to find any Amethyst Decievers or Horn of plenty.....good numbers last season. #fungifriends #toadstools #mushrooms

You were very lucky then Steve ! got close this season with a smart Cuprinus (see earlier post ) Schmiddtii is the "Holy Grail " for Small Copper hunters . Been lucky with Radiata and probably seen 20+ (all bar one from Dunge ) i,ll stick a few pics on......only seen one Radiata this season though.

Reasonably early start at #dungeness this morning ,at the pines ,a Mink scuttled across the path ,in the pines a pair of Crossbills very briefly .at the screen hide calling Water rails and Cettis Warb; +3 Great White Egrets.Later scrub clearing in the trapping area a female Small Copper #butterflies

This might be of interest Steve ,the plant I mentioned Blue Butterfly Bush (Glory Bower) Clerodendrum Ugandense. from Lade ,from a lake section now gone ,found on a fishing trip .........terrible shot ! it was ID'd for me by the curator (?) of Ventnor botanical gardens

Seeing @ploddingbirder.bsky.social superb leucistic Kestrel ,brought to mind a Leucistic Oystercatcher from the early 80's at Lade gravel pit ,in the days when you could walk right around including on the listening wall platform...these are "real record shots " never did master the old Olympus om10!

A look back at a moth that i,d long wanted to see a White-Spot (Hadena Bimacula) finally struck lucky one morning as the #dungenessbirdobs trap was being emptied ,and amongst the hoards was around a dozen White-Spots a #Dungeness speciality. Another local moth always good to see a Cyneada Dentalis.

Moth trapping in the garden has been pretty poor .....to say the least ! and seeing fewer in numbers and species ,I suppose its down to mass building projects and loss of habitat....and so on ....better night last night....heres a few. #mothsmatter #teammoth
