When you see a negative comment about something you love, try this simple test:
1 Did you love it before the negative comment?
2 Do you still love it after the negative comment?
If the answer to 1 and 2 is “yes,”then:
3 Why are you upset? Go love your thing. No one’s stopping you.

On the one hand, reading a novel you’re finding…less than great can be a slog. On the other hand, it can make you feel good about how much better your own writing is.

It’s tough being an AI abolitionist in academia right now. I have to listen to colleagues who normally fight against things that are destructive, exploitative, and unethical embracing AI like it was no big deal.

When all this is over, and I certainly hope someday it is, a whole lot of people are going to need a recovery program to get over their addiction to outrage.
