When you see a negative comment about something you love, try this simple test:
1 Did you love it before the negative comment?
2 Do you still love it after the negative comment?
If the answer to 1 and 2 is “yes,”then:
3 Why are you upset? Go love your thing. No one’s stopping you.
On the one hand, reading a novel you’re finding…less than great can be a slog. On the other hand, it can make you feel good about how much better your own writing is.
