5 years ago today Mexico banned the highly abusive and life scarring practice known as “conversion therapy.” This form of torture is based in the pseudoscientific belief that LGBTQ people can be mentally abused into no longer being queer.

27 years ago today South Africa decriminalized gay male relationships. From 1957 until 1998 being convicted of being a gay man meant a fine of 4000R, imprisonment for 2 years, or in some cases both. Since 1998 South Africa has developed into the undisputed leader in queer rights in the Africa!

Up until 1980 homosexuality was legal in the West African country of Togo. But 45 years ago today, the country made being a gay criminal offense punished with 3 years in prison and a fine of 500,000 West African Francs. This law is still in force as we speak, in 2025 and applies to trans people too.

7 years ago today, the US state of Maryland finally banned the barbaric and abusive practice known as conversion therapy. Those subjected to this practice are mentally and at times even physically tortured into claiming they are no longer queer in order to escape.

Just 24 years ago being gay in Minnesota could result in one year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine. Next time someone tries to tell you that the USA has always been a good country for queer people, remind them how f🔴cking stupid they sound.

3 years ago today Colombia further cemented its position as a global leader in LGBTQ rights. Unlike increasingly backwards and primitive hellscapes like the USA, Colombia is looking towards the future, not the past. Well done to an American country that actually cares about freedom. 🇨🇴 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

3 years ago today New Zealand banned conversion therapy practices with a vote of 112 to 8. The overwhelming support is incredibly encouraging and shows just why New Zealand is one of the best places on earth for LGBTQ people.

One year ago today Greece made massive legislative strides in guaranteeing fully equal rights for its LGBTQ citizens. Marriage equality, equal adoption rights for queer couples, and comprehensive anti discrimination laws were all passed and entered into law on this day! 🇬🇷 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

Being tolerant does not mean tolerating inherently intolerant world views. Being accepting does not mean accepting oppression and those who propagate it. Being progressive not mean being polite to the belief systems that destroy our world or the people who support these systems. ✌🏻💕 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

Two years ago today Hong Kong’s Court of Final Appeals ruled that trans people did not require surgery or medical proof of their transness to change their legal and that such requirements were unconstitutional. Well done Hong Kong. The USA should shut up and learn from your example of liberty. #🏳️‍⚧️

In 1973 Malta finally decriminalized homosexuality, nearly 10 years after gaining independence from the United Kingdom. Thankfully, today in 2025 Malta has grown into one of the most LGBTQ friendly countries on earth and it all started 52 years ago today.

3 years ago today the French National Assembly voted 142-0 to ban all forms of conversion therapy, making it illegal to try to change a person’s sexual orientation/gender identity. Those caught promoting/implementing the practice,will be met with criminal charges ranging from fines to jail time.

6 years ago today Angola’s government voted to decriminalize homosexuality!
