And the constant worry that our queerness makes us targets even here in a UNHCR refugee camp where we expect protection by international law.

We came seeking safety, crossing borders and leaving everything behind, only to find new struggles:

Overcrowded shelters where up to 20 of us share one small space, limited food that sometimes means one meal a day, fear of attacks from other refugees in the camp or the host community.

These photos capture us, real people, real hearts, here in Gorom Refugee Camp. My name is Vivian, and like many of us, I fled Uganda after facing violence, rejection from family, and threats simply for being who I am (identifying as a transgender woman) 🏳️‍⚧️

Some days here are very heavy. We face rejection from other refugees, threats from some community members, and the constant fear that one wrong word or one visible moment of being ourselves could bring violence.
