And the constant worry that our queerness makes us targets even here in a UNHCR refugee camp where we expect protection by international law.

Love is love. Queer rights are human rights πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸŒˆβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

We came seeking safety, crossing borders and leaving everything behind, only to find new struggles:

Overcrowded shelters where up to 20 of us share one small space, limited food that sometimes means one meal a day, fear of attacks from other refugees in the camp or the host community.

These photos capture us, real people, real hearts, here in Gorom Refugee Camp. My name is Vivian, and like many of us, I fled Uganda after facing violence, rejection from family, and threats simply for being who I am (identifying as a transgender woman) πŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ

Vivian asked me to share this video of her queer and trans comrades of Gorom Refugee Camp in Sudan who lack resources and protections due to UNHCR underfunding.

In the thread is more info and specific fundraisers to amplify.

Some days here are very heavy. We face rejection from other refugees, threats from some community members, and the constant fear that one wrong word or one visible moment of being ourselves could bring violence.
Thank you to everyone who has shared our stories.

Thank you to the activists, journalists, lawyers, and everyday people who refuse to let the world forget that LGBTQ+ refugees exist and that we are still human.

Thank you to those who have sent messages of support that reached us here, where the internet is weak and the nights are long.
Thank you to the people who donated to our fundraisers; you helped us access food, sanitary items, clothes, and medicine that has literally saved lives.

We fled death threats, family rejection, and violence in our home countries, only to find ourselves trapped again, this time in a foreign land β€” Gorom refugee settlement camp, South Sudan.

In a country where our existence is criminalized, we gather in secret, share the little we have, and still dare to dream of safety.

We are someone's child, someone's partner, someone's friend.
We are survivors who refuse to disappear.
