Snailposting! Some little guy in a random garden in Brooklyn in the rain
Small snail with a brown striped shell meandering across the top of a lichen covered wall under a black wrought iron fence, moseying past a few stray ivy leaves. Purple and white tulips are just visible beyond the fence. All is damp and green.

Every finger is tipped with an eyeball, looking every which way.

Happy Halloween, Ink Imp edition! Just a few of my weird little guys (who I should make more of)

All ink on paper
A mysterious old lady in an enormous tentacular bonnet is taking her pet for a little stroll in its carrier. What kind of pet? A mystery! With tentacles! It appears to be snacking on a nice bone. An elegant lady in a stylish Art Deco gown bedecked in pearls and fur is walking her pet moth. She wears a large glass hat… or is that a lamp? Is the lamp her head? It’s hanging from the ceiling and does not appear to be quite attached to the body. Something VERY odd is going on here! A mysterious bandit flees into the night, brandishing a zigzag dagger, face and figure obscured in a black greatcoat, and wearing a hat that appears to consist of an enormous candlestick, complete with lighted candle. A weird little hairy guy runs gleefully through the night. His hands are huge, and covered with wax, and every finger is a lighted candle.

Some spooky things I did for the Straight Way Lost TTRPG! It involves faeries and Dante’s Inferno, many supernatural shenanigans!

The first two are a mix of oil and digital, and the drawings are mixed pencils on toned paper
In a vast cavern, on a tall stone throne, sits the Ningikal. She is an ancient faerie, stark white, with a mass of red hair, robed in white and wearing a tall ornate gold crown with a huge emerald. A long sword leans against the throne. The throne, carved from the golden cavern rock with a design of intertwining tendrils, vanishes into a swirling pale mass of chaos that fills the top of the cavern. All around the throne is an immense maze of doors, arches, columns, and galleries, all carved from golden stone, some intact, some ruined. Hints of sparkling crystals and spirals run throughout the stone, everywhere. The Ningikal sits silently, chin on hand, judging us. A mysterious gentleman of suspiciously fey appearance stalks swiftly through a spiraling tunnel deep underground. The tunnel winds in uncertain directions, part in deep shadow, part subtly lit in golden hues, its walls a confused fusion of cave formations and ancient columns. The mysterious gentleman is dressed all in black, with a knee length belted doublet, hose, leather boots, and broad hat adorned with a golden spiral brooch. A long sword and leather pouch are at his belt, and he carries a long gnarled wooden staff. His skin is grayish, hisfeatures sharp and pointed, his black hair long and floating. He glances back at us, inviting us to follow with a look. A HUGE and ferocious black boar faces us with a menacing stance. Its hair is black and spiky, it’s eyes tiny and red and angry, its tusks enormous and very sharp. It roars and foams at the mouth, and wisps of black smoke rise from its back. Running away would be a good idea. Scary underground monster attack! This thing is like a mutant cross between a mole and a gorilla, covered with wiry black fur, with huge claws on huge muscular arms, big claws for digging through rock and small claws for grabbing and strangling. Its open maw is full of sharp straggling teeth, and surrounded by tentacles.

Have some spooky art for the occasion!

Zombie Queen is part oils and part digital painting, Vamp is painted in oils, owl witch is mixed pencils on toned paper, and the witch cottage is ink on paper
A grand queen sits enthroned on a gravestone under a full moon in an ancient cemetery. Though a zombie, and a bit tattered, she is still the height of elegance, in her silk and lace rococo gown bedecked with bats and pearls and grand plumed and powdered wig. She holds a pentacle-frosted cake, and feeds bits of it to the elegant attendant rats that scamper through the holes in her gown (even the rats have little wigs!) In the eerie violet twilight, a cadaverous vampire dangles from gnarled branches, lurking and waiting to swoop on potential passing prey. It’s unclad and pallid, with unkempt hair and arms half transformed to bat wings. An ominous witch is perched on a gnarly branch under the full moon, partly transformed into a great owl: her face is an owl’s face, one arm has become a wing, and her feet are turning to talons. Her ragged garments resemble owl feathers. She’s poised to swoop into the night. It’s a witch cottage! That is also a witch! An old ramshackle cottage with thatched roof and crooked chimneys and numerous odd windows and doors and nooks and crannies; but at the same time, it forms the dress and hat of a gnarled old witch, who smirks at us with a knowing look. A black cat roams down the cottage path.

Featuring the notorious shapeshifting fey Erroneous, from my still-kinda-on-hiatus webcomic The Wayward Queen. He is unclear on the nature of “Trick or Treat,” but improvising!

Opening the Jack-o-lantern is ill-advised, as the treats are indeed tricky
Two pictures of Erroneous, a tall and angular fey with ludicrously long black hair. In the first picture, he is in masc humanoid form, wearing a long black coat of sorts, sitting on a heap of autumn leaves, intently carving a jack-o-lantern with fingers turned into long claws for cutting purposes. The pumpkin is skewered on a long claw on his other hand. In the second picture, Erroneous is now a black cat, hiding inside the jack-o-lantern, which has a sign on top saying “Tricky Treats Inside.” Opening the jack-o-lantern is not advised, as the treats are indeed tricky.

Early voting for NYC is still going through Sunday! There was an actual line down the street at my polling place, that’s unusual for a mayoral election
Two voting stickers, a voting pen, and a tiny pumpkin. One sticker is borough-themed and has a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge in red white and blue, the other sticker is the cool orange and black Halloween voting sticker and has a pigeon in a witch hat with a trick-or-treat pumpkin bucket. The stickers say “Brooklyn Votes Early” and “Halloween Voter 2025”

Carmilla, a sinuous and seductive vampire, clasps the unconscious form of her lovely victim as blood flows over both of them. Carmilla’s dark hair twines over the face of her prey and fills the space with ominous black and blood-hued swirling gloom.

Apparently there was some kind of random pop-up concert in the park today?? (Some Canadian R&B artist named Daniel Caesar, as far as I could make out)

Kind of just stumbled into that, couldn’t get close, but met a cute dog

The Rose Queen, in a grand rose gown, is surrounded by her court of elegant bee attendants in a spacious pavilion decked with roses. The bee courtiers are all vying for her attention. A knight on a white horse, setting out to find a dragon in a mountainous wild wasteland, has just encountered the dragon’s aunt. She is MASSIVE, half pompous matron and half dragon, decked with curls, pearls, and feathers (or are they horsetails?) with a long scaly tail stretching back into the mountains, and a formidable gold lorgnette, through which she examines the knight. She does not approve. A joyful zebra, that is also a knight, ON FIRE, with stripes and tail turning to flames, garbed in a golden helmet with plumes that also turn to flames, rearing up and holding a striped lance that is also on fire, setting out on an adventure across sunny mountains, along a road leading to a golden castle. A little fire salamander friend tags along. Cover for the Sword Opera TTRPG: a half a dozen motley renaissance characters are having a huge brawl near a baroque pavilion in a garden. A swordsman in black faces off against a swordswoman in red, behind them a be-turbaned swordsman with a blue flaming scimitar is restrained by a pleading damsel, a ruffian in yellow with a couple of daggers sprawls in the foreground, a sneaky rogue in a weird hat circles behind with a dagger, and another damsel kneels behind the duelists begging both her lovers to desist. Dramatic mountains and storm clouds set the scene.

That is an excellent fungus!

I’ve been passing a cluster of similar fungi on my daily walks, and so far they’ve been getting bigger every day. I’ve been watching with interest and taking progress shots.
