the freedom to log out of minecraft is genuinely the only control you have over your life, and the only control you will ever have.

i think we should all 🦐 ourselves.

the fact that the president and powerful individuals from both parties are child rapists is all over the news. no one is going to do anything about it. it will be forgotten by this time next week. i am making $15 an hour getting screamed at by elderly white people who make 100 times my salary.

also we obliterate florida with a directed energy weapon from low-earth orbit, because florida is a shithole and it has to go

one time investment to eliminate the question of "what about those who can't afford to move", give everyone the chance to get on the side they say they want to be on. then let the cards fall where they may.

of course, the problem is that no one in power will allow their power to be voted away. that leaves us with the barbarity of pointing out that the elderly are infirm, and if they refuse to turn over control of society to the young, they must be forced. again- it feels insane. but here we are.

it feels insane to me that this is where we're at, but i'm at the point where i'd support anyone running an anti-gerontocracy platform. no one above the age of 65 permitted to hold public office, a job, or a driver's license.

i really don't think there's any fixing this. it's not the kind of problem you can vote your way out of, because the root problem is that Americans are now unable to self-govern. at best, you can only advocate for a benevolent caretaker... and that is a really damn dangerous way of thinking
October 29, 2025 at 3:48 PM
this was, of course, the entire point of the aforementioned decades of dumbing down- those efforts have now borne fruit in the form of a voting bloc that really doesn't think about much of anything, and can therefore be swayed without much effort
October 29, 2025 at 3:48 PM
these are not the kind of people who can be trusted to effectively cooperate toward a society that benefits all participants. they're less like thinking voters and more like herd animals that have to be guided in a direction before they can do anything at all.
October 29, 2025 at 3:48 PM
it's not just that the median American votes against their own interests- even an intelligent person can be duped with the right rhetoric. it's that rhetoric really doesn't have anything to do with their decision-making in the first place. there's no critical thought behind it at all.
October 29, 2025 at 3:48 PM
our representation, the way we're presented on the world stage- it's so crass and incurious. we really are in the American Century of Humiliation.

seems like a great idea to anyone with sense, but it would require marketing executives to concede that they don't know everything about the market at all times. might as well hope it rains spaghetti!

this is not a case of "old people are so uncool"- this is a case of a cultural divide so vast that the drives and motivations of the new generation are essentially completely alien to the people that run our society. that's a serious problem.
