if this is a scam, i really don't see what return could possibly justify this level of investment. ten years of this- i own no property, my equity and assets are minimal. who profits from this.

we gotta talk about this BRUTAL production schedule, by the way. if we're also assuming "The Santa Clause" is canonical (why wouldn't we) and production for Christmas starts up after Thanksgiving, assuming a workforce of under a hundred... no wonder 1000 Etch-a-Sketches an hour is the pace

interesting that in "Elf" (which i consider more or less canonical with the Rudolph movie for reasons that should be self-evident), which takes place roughly 40 years later, elf society has progressed enough that elves who can't keep pace are no longer exiled and now get transferred to QA instead

the concept of "elf practice" is so funny to me. they're elves who live to make toys, doing anything else makes you a pariah- but it doesn't come naturally, and if you're unfortunate enough to be born without the aptitude to acquire the skill, you get to go through life as God's Mistake

every year we have the "why aren't there more good modern christmas movies like Elf" conversation, and i think the answer is often overlooked: it's that Elf is extremely sincere. which is the exact opposite of what you'd expect from a mid-00's Will Ferrell picture
