This is ridiculous. Scotland prides itself on having green electricity sources. If you're not producing carbon dioxide, you don't need to spend money capturing it...

Tell me this isn't AI responding to a prompt?

Even with thermal power sources EVs are still more efficient. And most grids are rapidly moving away from thermal. And of course there are energy losses getting fossil fuels from well to tank, around 25% of the energy stored in the tank.

The 1930s pacifists have some share of the blame for the general failure of western countries to stop the nazis. I'm unconvinced that makes them pro-hitler.
November 9, 2025 at 2:02 PM
Yes, those terrible people, lending money to the government and expecting to be paid back! How very dare they.
November 9, 2025 at 1:52 PM
Absolute pacifism is foolish and naive when facing someone like Hitler. That doesn't equate to being pro-Hitler.

So is it still Green Party policy to fund this be abolishing the upper earnings limit on National Insurance? If so, how does that tally with Polanski's "tax wealth not work" slogan?

The death of Labour has been proclaimed countless times in the last 125 years.

Back in the day the lib dems said the same about Nick Clegg's popularity surge. Enjoy the hubris while it lasts...

Wales voted for Brexit.

Not forgetting as well that some EU member states have their own independence movements and would not want to encourage the idea that they could join the EU after separating.

By having a greater deficit per person. £4,375 per person in Wales vs £1,200 per person in England, according to those numbers. Wales' deficit is around 16% of its GDP, compared to 5% for the UK as a whole.

Countries don't work like that and never have.
November 3, 2025 at 6:34 PM
Never said it was. That strawman has taken quite a pounding.
November 3, 2025 at 4:46 PM
Disagree. Scotland is a country, but so is Britain. If you can define yourself as Scottish, I can define myself as British.
November 3, 2025 at 4:05 PM
I'm perfectly happy for you to identify as scottish, not british. But I identify as british, and you wish to deny me that.
November 3, 2025 at 4:03 PM
The Scottish government's own figures disagree with you.
November 3, 2025 at 3:08 PM
You enjoying pummelling that strawman again? An independent Scotland may do well, it may not, who knows?

But I've never considered Scotland to be a foreign country. Sure, it's different to England, but it's still home.
November 3, 2025 at 3:07 PM
I won't get a vote of course, but the outcome most certainly will be a concern to me. I don't want to see my country balkanised.
November 3, 2025 at 2:54 PM
Scotland doesn't even pay the highest electricity charges in the UK.

But yes, how dare the UK... er.... invest in Scottish industry and ... er... pay the market rate for what it produces.
November 3, 2025 at 2:27 PM
Devolved decisions, funded largely by the WM block grant. An independent Scotland would have to massively increase taxes to maintain that level of spending.
