If you aren’t connected to the Society of Friends, drop in and see why our Local Meetings are growing. Politicians do not have the answers to the world’s needs; let’s follow the Inner Light. Officially connected to the Southern East Anglia Area Meeting.

“Be patterns, be examples in all countries, places, islands, nations, wherever you come; that your carriage and life may preach among all sorts of people, and to them; then you will come to walk cheerfully over the world, answering that of God in everyone.” George Fox (1656)

Three of us representing Churches Together in Sudbury & District met with our local MP about Israel and Palestine, to stop British weapons from adding to the problems in the Middle East. Sadly, all we agreed on is that there is no place for antisemitism, Islamaphobia or racism in the UK.

It is always interesting to see what Meetings have on the table during a meeting. This is from the Clacton Meeting House.

There is nothing new about Quakers being arrested. The FBI has opened several investigations into Quaker peace activists, the Religious Society of Friends. American Friends Service Committee @afsc-org.bsky.social, a Quaker organisation, was first under FBI surveillance in 1921, then in 1956 etc.

Banksy's mural at the Royal Courts of Justice depicts a judge in a traditional wig and robe using the gavel for violence against a protester. With hundreds now arrested for protesting against the ban on Palestine Action, Banksy, like a historical prophet, shouts for justice.

Historian Tom Holland: Islam, Christianity & the West. A few interesting mentions of Quakers. The screenshot from 55:23, a comparison of Quaker Meetings in 1875 and BLM protests:

Thank you, Elsabé, for sharing your beliefs as a Quaker concerning immigrants at the Epping hotel. I am sorry to hear you paid a price for sharing them:

We have returned from holiday in Paris to see Kendrick Lamar, a modern-day prophet. We were not disappointed. He may not be a Quaker, but he has an interesting belief system that has ties to Quakerism and points to areas we travel together.

War & climate change are co-dependent. Conflicts significantly contribute to environmental degradation and greenhouse gas emissions, while climate change can lead to conflict.

In Gaza and Ukraine, war-related emissions compare to the annual emissions of several mid-sized European countries.

"A Declaration from the harmless and innocent people of God, called Quakers, against all plotters and fighters in the world..." STOP!

Violence is not the answer. Friends, as the world faces important choices, we are called to testify to the power of peace.

Three questions transformed my spiritual journey on joining the Quakers

Could I be wrong?
Which opened me up to grow.

What would love demand?
Setting a direction of travel.

What is more important?
When unclear about what to prioritise.

What questions helped you on your spiritual journey?

A good local Churches Together meeting this evening, agreement on a need to act on Gaza and coordinate between "fellowships". We shared Minute 30:

And have agreed to contact our MP, hold a vigil and a prayer meeting.

"I give myself this advice: Do not fear truth, let it be ever so contrary to inclination and feeling. Never give up the search after it; and let me take courage, and try from the bottom of my heart to do that which I believe truth dictates, if it lead me to be a Quaker or not" Elizabeth Fry

An essential correction in the New York Times: Quakers did not run the Rohwer War Relocation Authority camp; they offered scholarships to those detained there of college age, one of which went to the innovative "global" artist Ruth Asawa: www.nytimes.com/2025/04/04/a...

Yesterday, a new man came to our Meeting. The previous evening, he'd been discussing politics with a friend, and Quakers came up. His friend announced he was a Quaker, which surprised him as he sought a spiritual home.

Do we sometimes hide our light, ignoring the spiritual needs of others?
