More women at higher risk of breast cancer should be offered a mastectomy, according to researchers at @qmul.bsky.social and @lshtm.bsky.social New analysis has found it's cost-effective way of reducing risk of developing breast cancer compared to breast screening and medication.

A new study from @qmul.ac.uk found that 9% of all adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reported to @mhragovuk.bsky.social are associated with medications where side effect risk is partly dependent on patient’s genes. Of these, 75% were associated with 3 genes that impact how the body processes medication.

Disruption of a single amino acid in a cellular protein makes #breastcancer cells behave like stem cells, finds new research led by Queen Mary’s Institute of Dentistry. The study found that changes to the intermediate filament (IF) protein, vimentin, were found to promote tumour growth.
