That's exactly the rub, isn't it? Anything not D&D is unpopular that explicitly needs to be sought out by people more in the know. The industry as a whole, where all the limelight and all the money is? That's still dominated by D&D.

Because practically everything is D&D now: adventures, adaptations for IPs, discussions, games people are willing to play etc. Yes, more people are in the hobby, but the hobby itself has become "D&D".
