The slides for my SALT 35 talk "Determiners as predicates" can be found here: osf.io/n97vr. It was a real pleasure to present this work at this particular venue. Paper coming soon!

Four days later - 545km of mixed terrain cycling and some practically sleepless nights (I need a new sleeping bag). Finished the Berlin - Usedom - Berlin unsupported bike packing challenge 😤

Will be in Frankfurt this September for Sinn and Bedeutung, presenting a joint talk with Nathan Klinedinst on “latent discourse referents”, and a poster with Paul Marty, Guillermo Del Pinal and Jacopo Romoli on presupposition projection in non-monotonic environments 👀

Humblebrag, but also not sure what my past self was thinking: about to start a 4 day long unsupported bikepacking challenge through Brandenburg; immediately after, I'll fly to Boston for SALT. Looking forward to sleeping through the flight!!

I'll be at SALT 35 in May, with a talk on "determiners as predicates", as well as a poster, joint with Paul Marty, Jacopo Romoli, and Guillermo del Pinal, on "free choice in (non-)monotonic contexts". Looking forward to talking semantics!

I've written a new (short) paper on modified numerals, where I attempt to solve a whole bunch of problems by using the notion of a 'negative individual' in the ontology of pluralities (an idea from philosopher Justin Bledin). Check it out! ling.auf.net/lingbuzz/008...

found this beautiful, naturally occurring example of a 'cumulative' reading with two occurrences of "zero" on a poker message board: "At the time btw zero people gave zero fucks"
In the context of the discussion, it's clear that this conveys that *nobody gives any fucks*(!)

Somehow the best Prince live show I've ever seen recorded (and there's stiff competition) took place in Dortmund, somewhere I pass through on the train to Düsseldorf every week www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMaT...

It's wonderful to see that Irene Heim's manuscripts and unpublished handouts are now being systematically archived here: sites.mit.edu/heimarchive/. Heim's handouts are legendary, and I still consult her material on question semantics (not yet uploaded!) on a regular basis

I’ve been listening to a lot of Prince lately, especially the more obscure stuff that was not reviewed well when it first came out. Almost everything is absolutely incredible. Case in point: youtu.be/HKhu_rebRGE?...

My SALT paper "Donkey disjunctions and overlapping updates" is published here: journals.linguisticsociety.org/proceedings/.... I hope everyone appreciates the cool-sounding but otherwise extremely opaque title. It's about the weird logic of cross-sentential anaphora.

semantics ppl - has anyone said something precise about the contribution of "partially/partly" with incremental themes etc. like "He partially ate the apple"

There was no #linguistics feed when I posted this a while back, and now there is, so am reposting in case the new crop of bsky syntacticians are interested!
I finished a new book a week or so back on phrase structure in a mereological syntax framework. In case anyone is interested, I wrote a blogpost with a link to some slides from a workshop that I presented it at. #linguistics davidadger.org/2023/09/19/m...

teaching morphology in intro ling. this week and, man, I just love Marantz's "house" example to illustrate locality for contextual allomorphy. Such a great observation.

after watching neil gaiman get berated for ~12 hours for posting a photo without a mask...can safely say that we've definitely inherited the turbo narc energy from the other place
