Howard Phillips, 66, has been sentenced to seven years for assisting a foreign intelligence service by attempting to pass sensitive information about the then Secretary of State for Defence, Grant Shapps, to individuals he believed were Russian agents.

Julian Evans KC and Harriet Dixon of QEB Hollis Whiteman prosecuted Derek Martin, 67, who was sentenced yesterday at Brighton Law Courts to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 29 years (reduced to 26 years, 7 months and 7 days to reflect time spent on remand).

Anne Whyte KC and Oliver Mosley of QEB Hollis Whiteman are prosecuting the trial of former Plymouth solicitor Alan Harris at Winchester Crown Court. Harris is charged with historic sexual offences against nine former clients, alleged to have occurred between 1989 and 2015.

A teenager has been convicted at the Old Bailey of murdering 16-year-old Harry Pitman at Primrose Hill on 31 December 2023.

The jury heard that the fatal stabbing occurred during a brief confrontation in the crowded park at a New Year’s Eve fireworks display.

In R (Bates) v Highbury Corner MC & Westhead, the Divisional Court overturned Murphy (2015), restoring the right to recover inter partes costs in criminal JRs under s.51.

Mr Bates was represented by Adrian Darbishire KC of QEB Hollis Whiteman.

Four members of a highly organised criminal group have been sentenced to a combined total of 19 years’ imprisonment at Kingston Crown Court, following a prosecution led by Roger Smart of QEB Hollis Whiteman.

The Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) has referred the 2019 murder conviction of Benjamin Field to the Court of Appeal.

Field was convicted at Oxford Crown Court for the 2015 murder of Peter Farquhar and sentenced to life imprisonment. His conviction was upheld in 2021.

At the Old Bailey, Francie McCarthy was acquitted of murder and convicted of manslaughter following the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Deonte Mowatt-Slater in Islington in October 2024.
