Funny enough, my players dislike survival play. We've tried different systems and approaches, but they're not huge on big open sandboxes and survival play.

But they're very much engaging with the 'world interaction' playstyle AD&D encourages.

Walking the line between the two is tricky for sure.

Clearly they've not seen all the Indiana Jones movies.

Yikes. Hope they didn't pick any fights while split. Getting sidelined while another half of the group runs an encounter isn't fun.

Of course, once that happens, it's a good teaching moment so they'll be less likely to split up...

Ahhh. A pool of 7 players, expecting that 5 player group at the table. That makes sense.

I thought you were aiming for 7 player rumbles at the table all the time. Those are some OD&D numbers.

That's a big group, and certainly more than modern game designers assume will gather. Why do you feel 7 is best?

Or... arena battle!

Only the fittest for this campaign.

I have enjoyed all of these.

Happy belated! Hope the day and the session went well!

... but what if I change my mind later about whatever brilliant idea I think I have now?

Amazing!
October 30, 2025 at 3:47 AM
Yeah I've still got players I have to ask to roll by shape..
October 27, 2025 at 4:48 PM
You made em roll! Classic. I usually push point buy in 5e since stats are so important.

But I've been running AD&D and we've been rolling. Glorious stuff.

Yeah! Placing class first emphasizes the dominance of mechanics over narrative. Those other choices are now secondary to building an optimal PC.
October 27, 2025 at 1:07 PM
Hope it was a blast once you got rolling.
October 26, 2025 at 5:29 AM
If you get too many, it's survival of the fittest. Funnel game!! Real stakes to learn the rules!!

... unless you want them to have fun, I guess. Maybe save the funnel for the experienced folks.

Those rock. Orange and black are my go-to colors.

Just assume its from Homer's perspective. Maybe his memory is hazy. Maybe he just confused the background details of his life with TV he's seen.

Beastheart is a fun take on a pet class! Hope they're enjoying it.

We started with the Avernus segment of Well of Worlds for a fun intro (the players got Isekai'd). I thought using Paladin in Hell as a finale would be an awesome way to have Baator / Nine Hells book ends.

I also want to try to work in some Ravenloft by doing the end of the Grand Conjunction plot with From the Shadows and Roots of Evil. They know Curse of Strahd, so showing off other parts of Ravenloft could be a huge treat.
October 15, 2025 at 5:25 PM
I'm comfortable making those adjustments, so no worries there. I heard a fun run is Against the Giants into Vault of the Drow and then replace the end of that with Demonweb Pits.
October 15, 2025 at 5:25 PM
I'll add it to the list. We probably won't get to high level but it's nice to have a full plan.

I'm debating whether they can handle the challenge of the Temple of Elemental Evil. Long dungeons are iconic but also long.
October 15, 2025 at 3:15 PM
Yeah! Thinking we will start with Saltmarsh.
