Even without his uncle, he rather obviously has no indications of any religious life by the standards of any known Jewish denomination. Even his bigotry is devoid of Jewish flavour; he's not even a Dershowitz. He's just a generic American bigot from a Jewish family.

(trade secret: Americans are much easier, because the sort of records that bridge the gap between now and the >70 years ago era when genealogical database coverage gets good are uniquely accessible in the US. This is much much harder in Canada or most of Europe)

"Stefan/Stepan" being a very stereotypical gentile name back home probably discoursed that, yeah. Similar with John and Thomas.
(Hungarian Jews are a class of their own when it comes to this - taking Hungarian legal names even when relatively unassimilated and freely using saint names)
