Merry Christmas, or happy holidays, whatever you fancy - take the time to enjoy life over the next few days.

Happy winter solstice! Geographically for me, today's time without the sun is 16h, 5min, and 42s. And while we all yearn for longer days, why not take advantage of the dark and enjoy some solitude with the stars? When it's not freezing, of course.

I've missed Europe. Good to be back.

Took Patrick outside the city for some relatively dark skies and his first glimpse of the Milky Way. So cool.

Passed 2,000 kms on my bike a few days ago. I took my first ride on 16 Apr 2023. That's 853 days, or an average of 2.3 kms per day, every day of the year, rain or shine. That's Calgary to Vancouver and back. Or, 1/3 of the way across Canada, Pacific to Atlantic.
I love biking.

Had a rough day at work, so to de-tox, I went to Sonic 2. Original cart, original console, hooked up to a CRT via composite :) Played as Tails, found a couple of secret paths in Metropolis Zone that I'd never seen before, and trashed Robotnik's round ass in under 2 minutes in Death Egg. Stress gone!

Biked up to Chestermere and now just lounging at the beach here. Just ate a delicious sandwich!
Should have brought two sandwiches to be honest. It was a long ride and I still have to go back 😅

What a way to cap off an excellent weekend - a strong double-rainbow, and a sunset bike ride.

It's fun to go back through my 20+ years of astrophoto files and apply modern editing routines to some of them. Here is a small sample of OLD photos of mine that I recently processed. Keep in mind that the imaging equipment I use is super, super modest.

Did my annual Solstice midnight bike ride! It wasn't quite midnight, and it was overcast / raining all evening - I retained a LOT of water - but it was cool. Happy longest day of the year to everyone!

Last day of soccer! Proud of my dude.

Had to install a new submersible pump, but the waterfall is on for the first time this year! Now on to the rest of the gardening 😅

Sede Vacante.
The throne of St. Peter is vacant.

The interregnum has always fascinated me. Tomorrow begins the conclave to elect Peter's 266th successor and whilst I'm not overly religious, the process is laden with enough history and humanity to ensure I will be following it with great interest.

Did a 50km+ bike ride to the Harvie Passage and back. Had me a sandwich there. Warm sunny days, long bike rides, and delicious sandwiches... what could be better?

"And for the broken, there is the sky" is a line from a favourite song of mine.
A sky like this? Yes please!

This scene from Grandia always gets me in the feels - especially as I grow older. Farewell, Sue!

Boy do I appreciate long summer days and plentiful sunshine, but at times, on soft nights, it is the light of the stars that I love best.

Visited a half dozen churches in Montreal. Notre Dame basilica definitely favourite so far.

Went for a late evening bike ride. The weather was warm and the bike ride was pure joy. The pic is of my bike with the constellation of Orion in the sky. Can't wait for the warm days where I can lie on some hill somewhere and just enjoy the stars... after biking over to this hill, of course!

I blew out one candle out of four, on my first try. Does that mean I get three girlfriends??
