Incurably curious about everything computer security, even after too many years in the business. Also, I write things.

Stop the presses, ya'll. I have successfully made 1 pair of socks. This is try 4 or 5. I got impatient cutting the sock tube and had to patch a bunch of things. But they work and they're comfy and I love these colors.

I wasn't the first set of tracks in the woods today. Nice to know there are other people who enjoy morning walks in the freshly fallen snow.

I feel like this Stop Copaganda project didn't get enough love. It certainly made me reflect on how I portray law enforcement. These stories are a good antidote to oversimplification. People are complicated. Our stories about them ought to be too. stopcopaganda.compost.digital www.megancarney.com

Good vibes from the city.

For this #fungifriday - rock or mushroom? wouldn't it have been cute if I'd posted this around Halloween and costume season? Let's just pretend I did. (spoiler alert: it's a mushroom)

Highly, highly recommend listening to her entire speech on YouTube if you have the time. But if you don't, I pulled out some highlights for you.

Do you ever find a particularly pretty leaf and you carry it with you for a block? Just because you want to appreciate how magical it is that nature can create that shade of red? #bloomscrolling

All of the squash in my garden this year are survivors. #gardenthoughts

We don't decorate much for halloween, but I appreciate other people's creativity.

Lichen these fall vibes. (Bad pun. Sorry not sorry)

Ironically, the bean plants that did the best were the vines the squirrels planted in the corner of the yard. The beans I planted in the garden were overrun with weeds. #gardenthoughts

Physical books arrived and are headed to my beta readers. Who didn't actually get to read this b4 bc the publishing schedule got a bit chaotic. I'm the publisher, writer, and the marketing team but somehow things still get out of sync sometimes. nextchapterbooksellers.com/book/9798999... #booksky

Mushrooms putting on their fall colors. Turkey tail if I had to guess. #fungifriday

So windy this morning I had to steady the flower to get this picture. #bloomscrolling

Curious if these are some kind of tiny nest fungus or one of the jelly varieties. I'm always in awe of how many tiny powerhouses a forest contains. Collectively, this colony of mushrooms is capable of digesting a giant log. #fungifriday

Brownies to celebrate book release day! Good thing I'm better at writing than knitting socks. Now I just need to find a magic pen that would let me write fascism away. www.megancarney.com/books.html #booksky

Should I have finished the print cover before today? Absolutely. But instead, let's be impressed I learned how to make textures from my own photos. Used that to make the texture for the back cover. www.megancarney.com/books.html #booksky

Sometimes you find a mushroom that matches your socks. These were both nommed on and surrounded by moss and ferns. In a previous post I misidentified moss as tiny ferns because the scale was hard to judge. Don't rely on my ids, enjoy the pretty pictures and correct me if I'm wrong. :) #fungifriday

Been a lot of monarchs in the neighborhood this week. I found one on the sunflowers in the backyard but the picture didn't turn out. So, of course, I had to draw it. :) #bloomscrolling #monarch

Find the hidden animal in this photo. Please excuse the state of the garden. Between the bunnies, the raccoons, the squirrels and the weeds nothing has gone to plan.

The golden raspberries are coming in nicely. Picking them reminds me of advice a friend's grandfather gave me - you'll know it's ripe when the raspberry comes off easily. He always chastised us if we came back with juice-covered hands. #gardenthoughts

Ugly mushroom for an ugly week in politics. We can learn from fungi and mushrooms. Rot and destruction create opportunities. We can rebuild what was lost better than it was before. Or we can let the people that destroyed the system build a worse one in its place. It's our choice. #fungifriday

As activity from the bees and other pollinators winds down, I'm reminded that sometimes it's nice to focus on the flowers without all the distractions. #bloomscrolling
