On Friday I went to a fitness studio for the first time in my life.
On Saturday I went on a 18km hike.
On Sunday I am wondering why my muscles are sore 🤔
Well that wasn't great timing, but at least the views were amazing.

I am not kidding my whole feed is baseball for some reason.

Ooh! One has half a branch on it.

The only thing that remains to do now is to unwrap my souvenirs. French cheeses! (One seemed so alive that it didn't seem safe to transfer it to the plate with the others)

I have made it home!
I deeply enjoyed this conference trip with a great mix of science, scientists, and sightseeing.

Kissing trains!
A veeery long train is going to take me the last leg to Freiburg.
October 26, 2025 at 4:34 PM
I like this 'give up your seat' sign, and I am amused by the pictograms. The pregnant person looks VERY energetic and I pity the person whose leg has been sliced like a sausage. Charcuterie leg is definitely a reason to offer someone a seat!

Can we talk about some of the warning signs on the Paris metro?
Why does the 'be careful don't get your fingers stuck in the door' sticker show a hare? Is there some relevant French saying about hares that I don't know?

Time to catch a train and leave Narbonne
October 26, 2025 at 11:13 AM
The cloister provided unexpected views onto the tower of the cathedral.
Normally cathedral choirs are tranquil places, today the course of the Urban Race Narbonne ran through it. What a unique backdrop for a race!
October 26, 2025 at 11:11 AM
The finished part of the cathedral was open for visitors. Lots of interesting art and artifacts but the huge choir seemed oddly out of proportion with the matching long nave missing and never completed.

Narbonne's City Center is BUSY today. A flea market, a City run, tourists and people on their Sunday walk. Such a contrast to when I wandered around last night!

Breakfast secured!

Time for the final part of my conference trip to Valencia. Today the goal is to get from Narbonne to Freiburg (Breisgau).
But I have some time before the first train. So let's go find some breakfast in Narbonne.
The historic market hall seems like a great spot to do that.
October 26, 2025 at 10:53 AM
Found myself a vegetarian dinner and dessert. Also bought some obligatory French cheese. Best souvenir from any trip to France!

Narbonne's unfinished cathedral in the twilight is a mood!
October 26, 2025 at 10:43 AM
Got to Narbonne in the late afternoon where I explored the town a bit before continuing my trip tomorrow.

I highly recommend the section of this train line between Perpignan and Narbonne. Such a unique wet land visible directly from the train. Egrets, seagulls, FLAMINGOS right next to the train!

I did not have a window seat so didn't see much of the landscape during the coach ride. But I did spot the Sagrada Familia as we arrived in Barcelona!
October 25, 2025 at 7:16 PM
I even managed to get some impressions of beautiful Valencia after the conference talks had finished for the day.
October 25, 2025 at 3:31 PM
A highlight of this conference week were all the other perovskite solar cell researchers I got to connect with in conference breaks and over good food.

I have made it to my destination and the train station is phenomenal! Ornate ceramics and mosaics everywhere!

We have started to play hangman in German. I am only allowed to pick numbers as the word he has to guess. He can pick any German word he knows.
October 19, 2025 at 11:37 AM
Was greeted at the station by a Golden Retriever convention!
Great start to the day!
October 19, 2025 at 8:02 AM
After I enjoyed an evening stroll and dinner at my stopover location, I am now well rested and ready to get on the next train

Not sure where you all came from, but there is now 2000 of you following me 🎉

Time for a reintroduction where I list some facts about myself and you are welcome to ask questions!
