To fill the information gap left since drifting away from Facebook we have started a blog page where we can keep everyone up to date with what's happening with the group and both sites. The build will be ongoing for a little while. So please bear with us.

Spring has spung at the hillfort. Cowslips and a foreign bluebell on meadow, adders tongue, new bench and the last daffs standing in the orchard

Putnoe Wood, early days, but the bluebells have started to emerge.
Snowdrop opens the ball
Crocus ,uncovers all
tall Daffodil's a thrill
as is Tulip,and April-
Primrose has her say
whilst Bluebell brings in May...

Spring has arrived at Mowsbury Hillfort.

A pleasant task this afternoon in the spring sunshine racking the cuts from the earlier brush cutters stampede through the courtyard meadow and the southern aspects at the hillfort.

A Light exists in Spring
Not present on the Year
At any other period –
When March is scarcely here

It took five of us this afternoon just to clear the wayward golf balls from the meadow that Mowsbury Golf course could not be bothered to collect themselves.
On the brighter side the bramble on the southern slope did get a manicure. www.putnoemowsburyfriends.org.uk/2025.html

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

We try again at the Hillfort this Wednesday. 13.30pm
The Sun
I told the Sun that I was glad,
I’m sure I don’t know why;
Somehow, the pleasant way he had Of shining in the sky,
Just put a notion in my head
That wouldn’t it be fun
If, walking on the hill, I said
“I’m happy” to the Sun.

Mowsbury Hillfort. The calm after the storm.

The hills are smothered in a fog,
The sky is somber-grey,
The rain is coming in a mist,
A cheerless rainy day. (James W. Whilt)

Unfortunately, our cheerful task at the hillfort this afternoon has had to be cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.

We head up to Mowsbury Hill Meadow for this Wednesdays task. We need to manage the bramble before spring arrives. Lets hope our bramble management is better than Luton Towns management soccer achievements this season.

Up the slippery slope of Mowsbury Hill meadow for this afternoons task, retrieving wayward golf balls and undefined other activities.

No task today because of the swampy ground conditions but it did not stop the snowdrops trying to prove that spring is just around the corner. You may need a canoe to reach it though!.

Will it ever stop raining!
Its no wonder the Romans decided to quit Britannia in AD410.
In view of the exceedingly wet conditions at both sites, there is no task that we can undertake this Wednesday. Next week maybe.
February 10, 2025 at 10:27 PM
At present, there are no urgent tasks for either site for this Wednesday's task, so there's time to have a gentle stroll through the snowdrops and a litter pick
Meet at sand park Mowsbury Park 1.30.

If you go down in the woods today, to glimpse the snowdrops, you're sure of a big surprise. Take your wellies as its very swampy and some of the paths are flooded.
January 29, 2025 at 1:32 PM
Our task tomorrow has had to be cancelled due to the introduction by Bedford Borough Council of new Health and safety guide lines for staff and volunteers.
January 28, 2025 at 8:26 PM
We are back to Putnoe Wood this Wednesday to check out the emerging snowdrops. There are a couple of downed trees that also need some attention, and of course, a litter pick would not go amiss. 1.30pm, meet in Mowsbury Park carpark near children's sand play area.
