The Pin is mightier than the sword

Endurance racing, Formula E, feeder series. Occasionally F1. Doriane Pin fan account. Statistician by day, sometimes it shows up here too.
Pinned
Who is Doriane Pin, what's she done and why does she have a large fanbase for a struggling FRegional driver? A career retrospective and driver evangelism 🧵. Simple answer: she's a French racing driver; the first thing you'll notice is she's tiny - short enough she had to delay karting by a year.
Well this is a standard 2025-era Doriane Pin race which involves her being clearly slower than large parts of the F1A field and also winning the championship due to not being a bit. I prefer 2023-era Doriane Pin who was clearly faster than many of the people she was racing and also a nit.

Fun Alisha Palmowski fact: she won her first race in 2024, as well as in F1A in 2025. (GB4 at Oulton Park; I'd say "a wet Oulton Park but that's redundant).

The Maya Weug overtake line there would be an excellent one to use in F1 if only the start/finish straight was a bit longer so you could actually get alongside in an F1 car.

Wake me up when they get to the end of the straight.

One of the basic problems with F1A is that drivers like Pin and Weug, who are veterans in their 20s, are actually racing drivers like 16-year old Alba Larsen who should actually be in F4-level series. Hopefully as time goes on the average age of the series will get younger.

Drivers accept that they can't judge track limits perfectly from inside a cockpit challenge (impossible)

9.7s, 9.8s, 9.9 from the East German judge...that's a high mark in the synchronised spinning event for Ciconte and Westcott.

Felbermayr's clutch still doesn't work. Nothing like proper maintenance....
November 23, 2025 at 12:24 AM
So in case you've forgotten: Doriane Pin has a 20-point lead, so Maya Weug must win to take the title. If she does, Doriane has to finish at least 7th (which scores 6 points). If Weug gets fastest lap as well then I have no idea how the tiebreakers work in F1A so Dori had best just finish 6th.

If Doriane Pin scores points in the final F1 Academy race she will become the first and only driver to have scored points in every F1A race they’ve contended (excluding wildcards). 14/14 races. Not even Pulling managed that

Now here's a case where I can _definitely_ say that the writer needs to watch more GB3! I'm not sure that "side-mounted air intakes look cool" is in my top five reasons to watch the series, but I do agree that they do I guess....
Formula 3 cars used side pod air intakes that helped maintain pressure. They were phased out in the 2010s following redesigns and regulations.

I had noticed that the FIA documents bot had got broken earlier in the week and while I do applaud the actions of the maintainer who fixed it the posting 44 skeets in five minutes in an attempt to catch up does mean if you guys said anything recently I probably missed it.

Well done F1A, you all managed to survive the final safety car!
November 22, 2025 at 2:58 AM
I've seen worse half hours of racing than this, but in endurance races which got chances to redeem themselves. Also this rain is going to make the F1 qualifying fun, not that I'm staying up to watch it it's already almost 3am.
November 22, 2025 at 2:53 AM
So if Doriane takes win and fastest lap here she'd have a 20-point lead going in to the feature, meaning she'd only need 7th to take the title. Her worst result so far this year is sixth...

Again, F4 drivers are frequently better than this in the wet, but this time I don't blame F1A driving standards it's more about how this track is very low grip at the best of times. Recall that F1 drivers, with F1 downforce, complain about this. TBH I'm surprised they didn't crash more last year.

Some of you who don't watch feeder series much might be wondering if this is "just F4 things" and I'd like to confirm no, it isn't. I've watched a lot of F4 races this year and while I've seen a lot of cars eliminated on the formation lap I can't remember any of them being eliminated by a collision.
November 22, 2025 at 2:26 AM
Doriane taking the championship, assuming she does, purely on not being an idiot is....well it's about what this F1A season deserves. She started *fifth* and is now *second* and we've not had a green flag lap.
November 22, 2025 at 2:23 AM
What.
November 22, 2025 at 2:21 AM
Two formation laps? What is this, the 25 minutes of Las Vegas?
November 22, 2025 at 2:19 AM
Track being wet for F1A probably neutralises what I'd assumed would be an advantage of being on the clean side of the track. In theory I'd tell you Doriane should be good in these sort of conditions but I'm not actually convinced that's actually true, she would be if we were in sportscars.
November 22, 2025 at 2:15 AM
Hmm can I be bothered to stay up for the F1A reverse grid race? (I certainly can't be bothered to stay up for F1 qualifying).
November 21, 2025 at 11:34 PM
Was not aware how you spelled "renew" in French that language is not beating the allegations.
