That’s all a fair and valid thing to say and it breaks my heart, truly. I wish we were all as good as the best of us.

Weird, I swear I can remember the makers of GBBO hiking their price and the beeb deciding paying it would no longer represent good value for licence fee payers and it going to an external private broadcaster instead. Maybe I dreamt that bit.

The BBC provides the bulk of the training, technical standards and the wider culture in UK broadcasting and nothing in this country comes close to it in terms of its influence within the industry in the UK so yes, yes I am.
(and I *know* they’re not the same. That’s how analogies work)

I appreciate that. I’d have a right go at the news dept if I was in charge, tbh. There’s a limit on how much criticism I can say publicly about my employer (basically, none). But it’s only a part of the whole. I work for an incredibly diversity-supportive team and News does not represent us.

THOUGHT EXPERIMENT:
Imagine, you live in a country with a nationalised health service, and also private health services are available.
If the nationalised health service was done away with at the stroke of the government’s pen, would you expect the remaining private options to get BETTER or WORSE?

Because that’s how it’s funded. Other things are funded in different ways. It’s a complex world out there.
