I was trying to not ultra-nerd on *why* the enormous birds were staying out of it this time. But yeah, they're actually semi-divine giant birds and don't airmail the Ring for the same reason Gandalf doesn't exchange fireballs with Sauron.

*handwaves* I know it’s just a side conversation but there’s more to it, actually. (Ladida, eagles as spirits of Manwe, the Valar not actively interfering in mortal affairs, the eagles as longlived as ents and thus nearly as similarly removed, them being Maia and probably too powerful for the Ring…)
