You're welcome! I saw someone comment on it and then I spent my train waiting time and commute reading and thinking on it.

For big authors/big pubs like S&S they have the marketing power (and booktok influencers) to forego them, but smaller pubs don't and I think they can help ... But there's SUCH

There's a rogue "blurbs" in there lol. I think I was going to type that I have had a long relationship with blurbs! Lol

Booktok has helped take over some of that power and focus that blurbs had, and the S&S publisher makes good points -- and also says there still will be blurbs!

Are blurbs a racket? Is it trading on favors and cliques? Sometimes do they just get made up w the blurber signing off? Yes.

Are they meaningful? Do they move the needle? Can they help a book find the audience? Can they mean everything? Also yes.
