*taps mic*

I know this thing is still on, but I haven't been around here as much lately -- between work and life I've been forgetting to switch over to here so here's a small pic-cap of the last few months of adventures. And I'll try to be around here more.

Yes, as Sean Baker says, and as the literal name of our website suggests, everyone should watch movies in theaters, studios should release them into theaters, and parents should give their kids the magic of seeing a movie in a theater EVERY CHANCE THEY GET.

Sean Baker winning (deservedly) the #Oscars during #Filmspottingfest weekend (where Tangerine played and Sean sent wishes) was great timing

May we continue to do good things to deserve Colman Domingo #Oscars

Not saying you will definitely win an Oscar if you are on our cover, but it doesn’t hurt!

It was probably the wind but also either this sign had a few too many or I had (and I was stone cold sober, lol)

Celebrating #filmspotting, the arts, and local business that makes this city damn amazing. The community that @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social cultivates and nurtures is the best.

Also happy 20th Filmspotting -- I've been here since practically the beginning and I'll be here another 20 more 🥂

The very first publisher I worked for, a couple of years before I started there, published MR DARCY TAKES A WIFE and somewhere in boxes of books I still have a ARC for Darcy and Elizabeth.

And if you live in Chicago, go and visit Goblin Market!

I paused my podcast to read the comments and Quoted posts wrt S&S no longer requiring blurbs. Having spent over half my life in books (selling and pubbing) blurbs I'm torn on the decision and there are a lot of good /interesting thoughts. This thread hits on a lot of my feelings too
Simon & Schuster's flagship imprint is going to get rid of those little quotes from other authors on the back and front. I'm torn, having been a bookseller, a book reviewer and having been asked to write many blurbs. I'm also on holiday so I can't columnise on it, so here's a 🧵 instead.
Why Simon & Schuster’s Flagship Imprint Won’t Require Blurbs Anymore
In a decision some might call “stunning” or a “tour-de-force,” new S&S publisher Sean Manning has decided to no longer require authors to obtain blurbs for their books. Here’s why.

For The Reveal I wrote about that last night TWIN PEAKS aired on broadcast TV, a finale that ended the show as daringly as it began and influenced the rest of David Lynch's career. (We're turning the whole week over to Lynch, so look for more soon.)
Under the Sycamore Trees: The Night ‘Twin Peaks’ Went Off the Air
With the finale to the original run, David Lynch patched together pieces of a broken series and set the stage for the rest of his career.

For our week of David Lynch tributes, I wrote about the death-haunted THE STRAIGHT STORY and how it affirmed his genuine belief in love and human decency: thereveal.substack.com/p/the-long-g...
The Long Goodbye of David Lynch's 'The Straight Story'
In 1999, Lynch defied expectations with a G-rated Disney movie based on a true story. It wasn't the departure it seemed to be.

Are you a #sourdough baker if you've never cut your hand on dried starter you're scraping out of the jar?

(To be clear, I didn't cut my finger because I'm using a tool, a shard of dried starter got my knuckle 🤣)

I am cleaning up the bird app some tonight and I have absolutely had tears more than once -- almost 2 decades of my life have been chronicled there, and change can be a good thing and all that, but honestly in this moment, it kinda blows.

But here we go.

One thing I try to remember in really chaotic times is that it’s always possible I will be forced, not on my own timetable, into a new chapter of my life. But that has happened before, and it has not always been bad.
