Running Joke

I run (almost) everyday and review the punk, hardcore, metal etc albums I listen to afterwards in an effort to find the perfect running album.

Ugh. I hate twelve strings. Why are you doing this? Fine… it’s beautiful.

Road Signs and Rock Songs. If you really want to hear about it has a little pop punk bop to it. This album has some really well timed samples. It also has some subtle eclectic influences snuck in there. Song for a mix tape is really fun. What a great concept. Highly recommend for the next rainy day✌️

The first three songs are a really good start. Having fun in the rain. This is my first run in weather. Bad Case of Broken Heart is really catchy. This song has a little country rock tint to the guitar but also a little more aggression in the singers voice. The album gets a little slower around…

Giving up on love is the first song and it’s really fast and good. Love the little pauses throughout. My high school girlfriend loved this band and I remember listening to the second song a bunch when we broke up. Yeah, yeah, I’m emo. The next song I.O.U One Galaxy starts with a little piano riff.

A special place to me before I lived there. It was like walking in the footsteps of the (gutter punk) gods. I finish my sprint to black and blue feeling super fast. The upbeat, catchy tunes fueling my run. Def found myself singing out loud which is a sign of a good album IMO. Monday was a funday ✌️

Side kick had a little different feel than the others. Love the chorus “my name is Tim and I’m a lesser known character.” Salvation was the single from what I remember. It’s catchy and is mostly song by Tim so it’s got that attitude. Tenderloins got an awesome bass line. Another song that made SF

The first song is Nihilism and it starts off. The scratchy guitar noises explode into fast paced punk. The second song is actually the best though. Radio is a classic and is covered by a bunch of other bands. This song meant a lot to me as a youth “when I got the music I got a place to go!”. So good

It always came back to me when I was traveling in other countries. Oh yeah, there’s a good cover of I fought the law too. This album holds up well. Even the political content feels pretty relevant today despite using some pretty outdated language. That’s punk rock though IMO. Happy Thursday peeps! ✌️

He said “fuck” was kind of soft. Like he was eating the words. In hind sight this is still a shocking thing to sing into a mic or on stage in the 80s. Life sentence is the next song of note, mostly because it’s faster and more angry than most of the other songs. Holiday in Cambodia is a great song

The album starts with a couple strums of the guitar that almost sound like ska or reggae before bursting into fast, almost surf rock guitar. The lyrics to Police truck depict a bunch of cops riding around beating up drunks, having a blast. Too drunk to fuck is next. I remember thinking that the way

Overall really like the album but when I’m paying attention there are some flaws. The pace and overall energy and aggression was really good though. Might not have noticed as much if I wasn’t reviewing the music. Anyway, still enjoyed my run and the accompaniment. Have a good one! ✌️

Termination is the next song of note. It’s got more of the hardcore vocals. Def some juvenile sounding lyrics here though as well. Turn it around has some nice horns and is more ska. Sounds like there is an off note in there though. I wrap up to Nowhere fast which is prob my favorite song now.

The musicianship is a little sloppy IMO. They’re trying to jam a lot into the horn parts. Enough has a different vibe to start but picks up where the others have left off after a minute. Def some pretty fast paced ska. The bass player shines a little bit. This song has one of the better horn parts

The first song “Verbal Kin” was my favorite but now I have mix feelings about that movie because of the actor who plays him. The song is fast but has some nice ska break downs too. Nothing Left is another good one too. It’s really fast as well but has a little hardcore feel especially the vocals.
