Pausing doing reviews after I completed my goal of 100 albums but I will say the new DRAIN album is very good. #runningpunks #running #metal #hardcore

Ugh forgot the album cover

Needed something for me, this Monday so listened to Rancid’s Let’s Go, to hear some Matt Freeman bass lines. What a good choice. Their energy carried me today. Still a little rough around the edges compared to … and out come the wolves but has some real diamonds. 6.8/10. #runningpunks #running #punk

Throwback Thursday to another compilation. The Dead Kennedys’ Give me convenience or give me death. This was a band I’ve always had an appreciation for even when I wasn’t big on the music. Politically charged, decent pace, tons of attitude. Nice lil’ running pal 5.8/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

Tuesday morning run to some ska. I ran to Link 80’s 17 reasons. Energetic ska punk with some hardcore bits for good measure. The band members were pretty darn young when they wrote and recorded this album. It shows at times but it def has really good moments too. 5.8/10 #runningpunks #punk #running

Ran to something a little bit different today, Fang Island’s self titled album. Not sure how to describe these guys maybe indie, guitar-rock. Whatever you want to call it there is some awesome guitar work, and uplifting compositions. Perfect for a morning run. 6/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

Slightly later Friday morning run to Earth Crisis’ True Forever. A compilation documenting their music from 1991-2001. Classic 90s hardcore with a metal tinge. Hard and fast with a positive political message that stands the test of time. Solid running partner 6.8/10 #runningpunks #running #punks

This is the week of literal titles. Ran to Speed’s ONLY ONE MODE and they’re def entitled to name their music whatever they like. Fast, heavy and with a ton of attitude. Pretty straightforward hardcore but they do have some tasteful and organic eclectic influences. 7/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

Another beautiful day in Sunnyside. Was feeling some ska this morning so went with the Mad Caddies’ Duck and Cover. Pretty fast paced and upbeat. Talented group so lots of diversity in sound. First time playing air trumpet and running. Very enjoyable 6.1/10 #runningpunks #running #punk #ska

Extra appreciative of this morning’s beautiful summer-like weather. Ran to Cigar’s Speed is Relative. An album which walks the walk when it comes to pace. Random; The drummer now plays for the shins. Some very nice bass playing on this album. Great running partner 7.1/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

Last run before I get to go home. Fun Friday run to the Bouncing Soul’s Hopeless romantic. Fun lyrics and mostly straight forward punk rock. Although there was more nuance than I remembered. I love running because I feel like I really listen. Def an enjoyable run 6.2/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

Another super early run in Palo Alto. It’s throwback Thursday so ran to The Damned’s Damned damned damned. A critical early punk album that was a big influence on a lot of punk and hardcore bands on this side of the pond. The album is a little frantic but super fun. 6/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

Early morning run in Palo Alto, CA. Listened to Protest the Hero’s Fortress. Another Canadian band (sorry) they hail from Whitby, Ontario. Soaring vocals and technical guitar work made for an excellent running partner. Love the hints of mythology in the lyrics. 6.8/10 #runningpunks #running #metal

Early morning run to Boysetsfire’s After the Eulogy. I liked this album a lot more than I remembered. It certainly still has its hardcore parts but it’s also pretty sonically diverse for the era. The singers voice stands out to me as well. Very unique. 6.75/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

One album behind but ran on this beautiful trail in Steamboat springs this morning.

Thursday morning run to a throwback of sorts. I ran to Misfits’ American Psycho, the first album I got into from them. It’s also the first without Glenn Danzig (I think). Solid album, fun lyrics made for a nice summer morning run. Should have waited for Halloween 6.7/10 #runningpunks #running #punk

Starting to feel like a permanent swing to fall so went with some harder tunes. Ran to Everytime I Die’s Gutter Phenomenon. Wikipedia says they’re metalcore but I’m not sure how to describe this album. Def some more “classic” rock influence. Def solid 6.7/10 #runningpunks #running #punk #metalcore

Perfect morning for running. Ran to Title Fight’s 2011 album Shed. Solid pop punk album. They move even further into emo -> indie rock territory as time went on. Really like the singers voice. Album slows down towards the end but still a good running partner. 6/10 #runningpunks #running #punk
August 26, 2025 at 6:03 PM
Cool morning run to The Get Up Kid’s Something to Write Home About. Wanted to take it easy so picked something lighter. This was the first “emo” album that I owned. I really enjoy this album but it wasn’t the most motivating. Kinda want a nap and a good cry 5.7/10 #runningpunks #running #emo #punk

Beautiful friday morning run to 30 foot fall’s ever revolving, never evolving. I really like this album and was always confused why this band didn’t land more. Decent paced punk with some funny lyrics. I love the album name as well. Feels accurate for the times. 6.3/10 #runningpunks #running #punm

Throwback Thursday run to a suggestion from the #runningpunks (I think). Ran to Subhuman’s From the Cradle to the Grave. A classic album and great running partner. Every person I knew in high school that had a subhumans patch on their jacket scared me. Solid old school #punk. 6/10 for #running
August 22, 2025 at 3:08 AM
Ran to some ska for a change of pace. Assorted Jelly Beans’ self titled album. Another good re-listen. Remembered this as being fun but sloppy ska punk and it was more musically technical and composed to say the least. Fun album that was 🤏ahead of its time. 6/10 #runningpunks #punk #running #ska

Feeling groggy this morning but Killswitch Engage’s As Daylight Dies certainly woke me up. Fast, technical metal with soaring vocals this album went platinum in the US. Sometimes you need some double kick drum to the heart to get moving. Today was one of those 🤘7/10 #runningpunks #running #metal
August 19, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Feeling extra sore this Monday. Ran to Snapcase’s Progression Through Unlearning. Unrelenting 90s hardcore. These guys had been together forever at this point and it shows. Only knock was the admittedly rushed production makes the songs blend together a little. 6.3/10 #runningpunks #running #punk
