The Mobile Suit Breakdown podcast does a great job in general but specifically their Zeta and ZZ episodes did a really great job at figuring out the culprit behind the inconsistency and misogyny in that series.

It's clear to me that Tomino is grappling with his attachment issues with his mom but one of the lead writers for Zeta and ZZ is a misogynist. Every episode he writes has dramatically different characterizations particularly of Fa and the men around her who constantly belittle her and reduce her-
