When you go far enough north, there's this lovely state of existence that isn't quite winter but no longer is it autumn either. Longer nights, shorter days, frozen ground, frosted windows, but no lasting snow just yet. I think we need a name for that. Thoughts?

The American Ornithological Society says it will alter the names of North American birds named after humans, starting with up to 80 of them.

For my entrance to Bluesky, here is the fabulous skeleton of St. Pancratius in Wil, Switzerland. He was one of the catacomb saints - skeletons exhumed in Rome and sent across the Alps to replace those destroyed during the Reformation. They typically ended up elaborately dressed and bejewelled
