Sometimes fishing happens elsewhere. Wandering the stacks can lead to some unexpected finds. Casting far has its benefits on occasion.

Had a discussion the other night with some folks about proprietary feelings towards streams. In my mind this is my stream. Difficult, a bit unruly- maybe even cantankerous at moments. #flyfishing #streams

From a few years back-from a clinic for lobster divers in Bilwi, Nicaragua. Right about now we’d be prepping for our annual service learning trip, but COVID and the deteriorating political situation in Nicaragua put an end to those trips. Missing our friends and colleagues on the Atlantic coast.

I recently re-encountered this quote from Aldo Leopold: “One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds”. In light of all that is happening lately (wildfires , hurricanes, etc) I wonder if we'll be less lonely now, as harsh realities impact more people.

I've been thinking a lot lately of the spaces where we practice(d) democracy and what that looks like now. My goto's are unions, the Grange and food co-ops (of the late 70's to early 80's). I recently interviewed someone who mentioned (some) community gardens as a space of democratic practice.

A few years ago we planted some ginseng in a sugar bush on a friends farm. Looks like some of what we seeded succeeded (apologies, couldn't resist).

After 17 years I finally pulled the plug on Twitter/X. It was past due but hard to cut the cord. Made many connections over those years. Hoping to re-connect and develop some new connections. We'll be needing strong networks for the coming years.
Wish I felt a bit more hopeful than I do right now.
