Science belongs to everyone. Knowledge should flow freely, not be trapped behind paywalls, resold to the researchers who produce it, or silenced by costly publishing fees over unpaid work.

We moved from an era where accessing science was forbidden due to expensive paywalls, to an era where publishing has become impossibly expensive! It is inaccessible to many researchers to publish without institutional backing or reserving significant percentage of science funding to pay publishing

Authors pay $4,500 per article while journals publish 40+ papers per issue. Scientific publishing has become a billionaire industry built on unpaid editorial and peer-review labor. With automated and non-printed workflows the production costs are near zero and still using online ads along articles

This is deeply tragic. The destruction is overwhelming. An unbearable nightmare. Unacceptable and incomprehensible. The disregard for human life is horrifying. Killing by bombs was wrong, fostering famine is beyond any measure of decency.
So sad that it feels wrong to react to this post with a heart

What an interesting opinion piece, with a thought-provoking title! Are the most 'segregated' among us actually those who choose to isolate themselves in an elite bubble, unwilling to socialise with others? I believe that this is something far more widespread, not only UK.
