To my fellow Blueskyers, I wish you the best of Feasts tomorrow. May you find yourself victorious over the kitchen challenges headed your way. May you feel connected to your own Past, Present and Future Feasts - and the much loved (if difficult) people who are the reason we go to all the fuss. ❤️

Immediately after college graduation, my darling daughter decided she wanted to be our Chief Cook for the Feast, leaving me to be her Chief Sous Chef and Bottle Washer. Her first try involved a memorable but triumphant tussle with a greased and painfully cold bird, swearing and day drinking.

My mother, as she often reminded us, was Not A Cook, so I have no early memories of Thanksgiving at home. She was fortunate to have first, a mother-in-law, and then, a daughter-in-law, who were enthusiastic and accomplished ones. I was in my 30’s when I started to cook and serve the Feast at home.

Thinking of Football Thanksgivings past, when I started hosting. My dad came early enough for breakfast, stayed all day and into the evening, napping as needed and flipping between channels to create a nice mix of Parade, Dog Show and games. Thankfully, he only requested chocolate and pumpkin pie.

Like many others, I am remembering Thanksgivings past, in particular my childhood over-the-river-and-through-the-woods ones at Grandma’s - complete with apple, berry, mince, chocolate AND pumpkin pie - surrounded by dozens of family members. It was so much more precious than I ever imagined.

By always shifting center like this, Pete will end up back in the closet, if he’s not careful.
Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25
Pete Buttigieg critiques Democrats for focus on identity
The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

Some astute people on this app have (correctly) pointed out our communities will be more secure in the coming days of scarcity if we donate $ regularly to very local (immediate neighborhood) food banks. If a bunch of us do a little good, it will add up to a lot.

I voted today. Got a text earlier this week to be on the lookout for my ballot coming in the mail. Got my voter’s pamphlet with statements from candidates. Got a chance to vote for schools and parks and a candidate for King County Executive I’ve been watching since 2021. I am so grateful for it all.

Teddy Bridgewater just got suspended as the Head Coach of Miami Northwestern High School because he covered Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players out of his own pockets last season.

Hummingbird visits today…at least half a dozen while we were taking care of the roses in the backyard.

Feels like a small miracle every time they accept the hospitality of our feeder.

This matters.

The people who think this is necessary quite simply don’t want women to vote.
Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act.

Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes?
Staffer: a DL and birth certificate.
Me: The documents don’t match
Staffer: Then a marriage certificate.
Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too?
Staffer: No
Me: See the problem?

1/2 So…Enhanced/Real ID and tales from the walk-in line yesterday at DOL in Seattle. Yesterday’s line was 3 hours long at 1:00pm. Thursday’s line was 5 hours. If you can wait until after the May 7 deadline, by all means wait - and/or go online and get an appointment.

None of the IOL options for Seattle—including Jenkins—were perfect, but doing basically nothing…was certainly a decision!

After whittling Duke's lead to a single point with 4.1 seconds left to play, North Carolina went to the free throw line with a chance to tie the game.

But a lane violation cost the Tar Heels a win ... and potentially much more.
