Academia is full of admin and process (like many jobs).

But I believe research is also a creative endeavour at heart. A break then is not just for getting a pause from the duller bits but also refuelling for the creative elements.

Enjoying a precious few days off

Lovely, muddy, fresh, frosty walk this morning.

👋Are you interested in supporting parents of young people with mental health difficulties?

I’m interested particularly in the parents’ own wellbeing.

If this is up your street, let me know. I’d like to re-invigorate our special interest group we ran after getting support from Emerging Minds.

This week I’m mostly working out of the train station - waiting for delayed trains in an attempt to get to my actual, lovely office

Parents are impacted by young people’s mental health difficulties. Here is our summary of our @NIHR.bsky.social funded literature reviews

to understand needs and support available for #parents of young people with a #mentalhealth difficulty.

This is the short summary we created for parents

Oh this is fun - thanks for sharing about it! It is quite spot on isn’t it! Mine hit me perfectly with this bit…

I’m so pleased we are getting ready to share a leaflet with health care providers in Rwanda about self-harm & suicide in young people, rooted in our qualitative #research with young people, parents, & health professionals. This is our first draft, prior to translation. #adolescent #mentalhealth

Stunning morning!

A fine day to spent partly on finalising themes for #qualitative analysis of #parents’ experiences of having a child with additional needs, working with great academics & practitioners in Borneo.

Our sample was biased to highly educated people (ease of recruitment) but a start!

Pleased to work on a paper with great colleagues at University of Malaysia Sabah - experiences of parents of children with additional needs. We see othering of the parents, linked to a deepened sense of isolation, which is particularly culturally significant. Familiar themes with specific meaning
