“The government cannot use force against people that are being nonviolent. [But] that force has come in the form of tear gassing, and shooting rubber bullets and pepper spray. We've seen peaceful people subjected to these things,” Johnson adds.

Judge Ellis’s ruling is a necessary response to the Trump admin’s repeated violations of her previous temporary restraining order. To be clear: the admin's tactics in the Chicago area are from the authoritarian playbook—a deliberate, nationwide campaign to suppress dissent and neutralize opposition.
VICTORY: Judge Ellis granted the most powerful rebuke of the Trump admin’s immigration enforcement tactics yet — a preliminary injunction to more permanently stop the violent and lawless tactics federal agents have deployed against protestors, press, and clergy in the Chicago area.

Journalists, clergy, and residents have been gassed, attacked, and brutalized while exercising their rights. Take, for example, a declarant in our case, running with a baby in hand as DHS agents shoot tear gas. The government must be held accountable and we must bear witness.
