Is this place the mainstream thing now? Technically, the progressive movement wants to be mainstream too. Sometimes, this seems like an aspiration - other times, we won. We should do that again sometimes.

“But I’m not rich at all!”
“Top dozen percent, actually.”
“But I don’t feel rich!”
“What about the house and the airplane?”
“But it’s my money!”

Never shut up about tech that enables theft on both ends and uses more energy and water than a small country. Never.
can people stop telling me to let ai in the arts go??? if we shut up now, there's no controlling it, no regulating it, artists and authors will keep having all their works cannibalised and reshaped for profit they don't see.

so, no. i won't shut up.

Nichts?

Y'know, i said back in 2020, 2021, that we were all gonna need a kind of global push for therapy in order to deal with an unprecedented moment of mass death and trauma, and holy damn do i wish that had actually happened.

Michigan Just Became the First State in 6 Decades to Scrap an Infamous Anti-Union Law
Democrats, empowered by voters in 2022, overturned a “right to work” law as part of a sweeping pro-labor agenda that’s a model for other states.

It is my current guess that Bluesky will be the platform of the mainstream once it enables federation, and that Mastodon will stay around as a second suburb with a different culture. Everybody seems to think that one network must win, but we can just as well use two.

As a hacker I use Linux and all that stuff, and I've been interested in the strategy of open-source for a long time. I always thought that OSS should be marketed actively. We shouldn't just sit back and let the code do the work, because nerdery alone doesn't sell and doesn't succeed.

Few people on here have said JavaCard. I have a sleeping open-source project called OpenJavaCard that used to aim at building open solutions using smart card technology. Given that this is rare knowledge, I'd be glad to share my expertise if you need it.

I once wrote a messenger that I will pretend no one knows about because it does not exist anymore - but I am somewhat interested in doing another online service venture, if it's moral and promises some success. Tech development interests me. Buzz does not.

You can call me a scene hacker. No one in my daily life would call me by real name - or even all of them - unless they’re trying to be funny.

So why am I talking here? Mastodon keeps boring me a little because it doesn’t have much public life - or at least my feed kinda doesn’t. This place seems more like „Main Street“ - although I‘m really waiting for federation.

Wondering about my person? I’m a life-long school dropout, so I don’t know what „normal“ means - but I am very well-educated in all sorts of things. With family in several countries, I care more about humans than any state or organization. Lucky me.
