TAX THE RICH.
Under capitalism, it’s normal to let children go hungry, let banks force people out of their homes, let sick people die for lack of access to healthcare. But the idea that billionaires could just be less rich - not poor, not struggling, just less rich, is considered insane.

If you’re in the bottom half of income, there’s almost nothing left in US society for you. The expectation is to work as many hours as you can, buy the cheapest groceries, bring them home to the cheapest apartment you can find, and just sit there until you have more money somehow.

Defunding public schools in favor of privatized “school choice” schemes will leave working-class kids behind. BIG GOVERNMENT FOR THE RIGHT, SMALL GOVERNMENT FOR THE POOR: Promise #1 criticizes government intervention - expect when it’s used to ban abortion, criminalize LGBTQIA+ people, and control the personal lives of Americans. It isn’t about “family values” but rather imposing reactionary ideology while stripping working people of bodily autonomy and social protections. FORCING BIRTH + NEGLECTING SUPPORT SYSTEMS: Promise #1's extreme anti-abortion stance (like overturning Roe v. ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS ARE THE REAL FAMILY CRISIS: Promise #1 ignores the real reasons working-class families struggle: stagnant wages, unaffordable housing, rising healthcare costs, and lack of paid parental leave. Rather than addressing these issues, it scapegoats single mothers, “fatherlessness,” and marginalized communities. ATTACKING SOCIAL PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT FAMILIES: Cutting welfare and adding work requirements for food assistance will hurt working-class families, pushing them deeper into poverty instead of advocating for living wages, universal childcare, and better labor protections. STATE CONTROL OR “PARENTAL RIGHTS”: By banning discussions of race, gender, and issues related to reproductive health in schools, Promise #1 is not about empowering parents.
