The advantages of unionization are obvious, so why don’t more workers join unions?

Employer-led union suppression strategies are a key explanatory factor.

The latest issue of Labour/Le Travail contains an article on union endorsements and the voting intentions of union members that I co-authored with Daniel Westlake.

We summarized our findings in a short piece for the Conversation here: theconversation.com/do-union-end...

As Canadians cast their votes in the federal election, let's remember the role of politics in shaping labour rights on this National Day of Mourning.

Fight for the living. Mourn for the dead.

Kormos quickly earned a reputation in Niagara’s legal community as an outstanding criminal defence lawyer. In 1985, he was elected to Welland City Council and in 1988 he was elected as MPP for Welland-Thorold, replacing his friend and mentor Mel Swart.

After graduating from @osgoode.bsky.social in 1980, Kormos returned to Welland to set up his own law office, at the foot of King Street, in the shadow of the Page-Hersey factory.

It's been 12 years since we lost Peter Kormos. He was one of the most colourful politicians in Ontario's history and a real champion for the working class. Long before he was taking governments to task at Queen's Park, he was fighting the good fight closer to home. 🧵

Blaming unions for your own economic insecurity is not the answer. Standing together, working-class people and their unions are stronger and can demand more from the wealthy and corporate interests.
