My son came home from his first trimester at college, and the dogs are so ecstatic. I feel like they're going to need regular FaceTime sessions once he goes back to school.

For all of the good arguments for expanding public utilities please read this excellent piece by @sevier.io because the only answer to “how can we afford it” is to bring our energy systems back into the public commons and away from the realm of shareholder and investor greed.
We Need Public Power for Energy Equity
With more than one-quarter of all U.S. households experiencing energy insecurity, the requirement of private utilities to produce competitive profits is fundamentally opposed to the equally urgent tas...

I’m feeling like booking a flight to DC for a conference is 50% pointless. Is this the time to find out how wretched cross-country train travel is? 😬😂

The Blue Jays are playing so much better than the Dodgers that I think I may have to switch sides.

Dodgers are getting outplayed tonight. Dodge harder, guys.

I kept hoping Freddie Freeman would save us/put us out of our misery. I don’t know if I can watch again tomorrow. 🫠

The people who paid $28k on Stubhub for their Dodgers tickets are getting their money’s worth tonight. I guess.

There's a headline in the W. Post: "Why the demolition is so shocking."

Is it shocking? I'm not shocked at all.

California has a law against taking away recess as punishment for K-12 students. My kid’s school is still doing it anyway, despite marketing itself as progressive or whatever. Come on.

Nevada, Iowa, but I'm not from there and I can't imagine there are any tourists who go there. Also Buena Vista University in Iowa.
What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

Because I am disorganized and tired, I'm going to make a "local lulav" instead of scrambling to buy the real thing before the holiday starts.

I had not heard about this and am surprised California can't get it done.
Survivors of domestic violence who went to prison for crimes related to their abuse have for years asked California lawmakers to make courts take that abuse into consideration. For the third year, California killed such a reform.
For Third Year, California Kills Bill to Help Incarcerated Domestic Violence Survivors
Advocates in California have pushed for relief for people convicted of harming their abuser, hoping to build on states across the political spectrum that have adopted such reforms.

This post reminded me to email my neighborhood's senior lead officer to ask why the police felt it necessary to treat my 5th grader as a human trafficking victim when they saw her taking a walk by herself on our block.
They do not want racist cops or bullies or sociopaths or cops who view themselves as operators.

They want cops who solve crimes, who arrest criminals and who keep their neighborhoods safe. They don't want fewer cops. They want better cops. And they generally feel the police department falls short.

My dog sneaked five donuts off the table when no one was looking. The two he left behind are still upright in their original spots in the box. Very mysterious.

This morning I'm (theoretically) taking my daughter to Hebrew school at a new place. I will automatically analyze everything about the experience of being new in realtime because I've studied inclusion & exclusion in Jewish communities for so long.
