Made Raspberry Almond cupcakes and Cookie Dough Brownie Bars for a department gathering. Both very tasty. Only remembered to take one pic.

Did some #baking for the teen girl’s game night yesterday. Dulce de leche cupcakes. The cake was *amazing* and the DDL frosting was good too but a bit too rich. Might go easier next time.

#LicensePlateGame for 2024: got them all by August this year and tried to go for a second round but couldn’t get a second from NH, RI, VT, or WV.

The best part is starting over and the flurry of plates we will find this week being out and about.

Last #baking endeavor for 2024: a cinnamon crumble topped apple pie. Super delicious despite what it looks like. It was for NYE feast and I had to bake it in the convection oven to keep main free for pork chops. It signed the top. Feast was mango salsa and pork chops, herb biscuits, veg stew. 😋

For Xmas in 2024, I used the gingerbread cookies with American buttercream recipe in my new frosting book — AMAZING. The pie, a pecan apple with butter, didn’t go as well. I rushed it out of the oven. 🙁

For Thanksgiving, I went with the familiar blueberry lattice and another crumble top, but also made maple glazed carrots, broccoli pancetta, and green beans with almonds and onions. It was a good spread.

Having made every recipe except the cheesecake (no interest in the fam!) from my Maira Kalman book, I sought a new cake book. These recipes are incredible, but I am struggling with the flour in the British recipes that all call for self-rising four, which I am less familiar with. Tasted amazing tho.

Another fun fruit topped birthday cake in June 2024; one of my favorite decorations yet.

In 2024, Apple Pies for birthdays, spring break, and summer celebrations.

Not much baking for most of 2023, but we had a gingerbread topped apple pie for xmas, and we did our NYE feast with the kids. Delicious food.

In February 2023, the newly 15yo kid wanted something different -- we tried a cinnamon roll "cake"

More apple pies in December 2022, an Apple Pear Crumb Pie for Xmas, plus the book all these Apple Pies come from, and a less-liked Cheddar Crusted Apple Pie for NYE.

In April, I tried frosting roses. It was fun, but I haven't gone back to it... I should! As work started to normalize after lockdown and then even pick up more... I think I had big gaps where I didn't bake for stretches.

Another berry torte and a chocolate raspberry cake (my #GBBO decorating imitation) for a kiddo birthday.
January 2, 2025 at 3:35 AM
In January 2022, I kept trying new things: a berry torte and another carrot cake with more elaborate (but still pretty simple!) frosting.

For New Year's Eve that year (2021) we started what has become a tradition: the kids' NYE feast. I make dessert and they make the dinner.

At Xmas, my mom and I tried the fake apple pie made of Ritz crackers and lemon that we'd heard rumored as a Great Depression substitute (not sure if that was true). Plus, gingerbread cake for Xmas day (slightly less successful).

In December, I branched out to cookies -- which I am less successful at than pie and cake. Xmas cookies for the neighbors, and a honey cake for us.

SO MUCH baking in November 2021! A four-apple birthday pie, a coconut 50th birthday cake, and two pies for Thanksgiving: apple with graham cracker crumb top and apple blueberry with lattice top.

In May, I tried out a flourless chocolate cake. In June, another birthday cake (Salted Caramel Glaze) and in July, one of the great discoveries of that cake book, a pavlova with berries. I LOVE the payola! The crunchy outside and chewy/melty center are so unique and delicious.
