Falkland Palace and gardens looking glorious this morning. I had the immense privilege of being shown around (including hidden doors and rooms!) by the wonderful Hereditary Keeper, Ninian Stuart, whose love for this landscape and its history runs deep. But I was foolish enough not to bring a jumper!

I’ve been a bit quiet - away in Greece, visiting archaeological sites, swimming in azure seas - and for the first time in ages I left my laptop at home! I was back to writing today with renewed vim and vigor, full of energy and ideas… 1/4

I’m sad to hear the news that the wonderful Jane Goodall is no longer in the world. Her work with chimpanzees at Gombe in Tanzania taught us to look at other apes - and ourselves - differently. I was privileged to meet her later in life and tell her what an inspiration she was to me.

Lovely to see my old friend Clive Waddington in the Digging for Britain tent last week - and the whole family is busy this weekend, demolishing the delicious Bakewell Pudding that he brought me! Thank you Clive!
