SCHOLARS BEWARE! Last Friday just before COB here in Adelaide I was notified that an article of mine had been published online. Almost exactly 6 hours later I received this phishing email inviting me to follow a (doubtless dangerous) link to find out about my 'research award'.

Charlie Kirk was a racist, homophobic, transphobic, elitist Christian Nationalist who advocated for public executions that children should have to watch - including presumably the stoning of gays he advocated. Johnson, 2nd most recent Conservative UK PM, calls his views 'simple common sense'. Odious

Whoop, whoop! One of my articles has reached 500 citations on Google Scholar. May not sound like many to you but I'm happy!! Available here if anyone's interested. Critiques the student as consumer metaphor and presents coproduction as a alternative. www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Received the following email purporting to be someone from the (real) US Institute for Systems Biology. Checked with the Institute who said they'd received a number of inquiries & confirm that its not someone they know. Don't communicate with this person any further. #ScamAlert

Today’s diversion is a new (to me) Canadian artist, Lawren Harris, with this piece titled, ‘Ice House, Coldwell, Lake Superior’ from about 1923. Saw it and went Whoa!!! #art #painting

Very sorry to hear. A truly great guitarists from a generation that spawned the real cream of the musical crop. I'm given to believe that he's one of the two guitarists (the right-hand one) in the picture of hippies/beats/dossers on Brighton Beach in the late 60s. A sad loss.

On 13 April 2025, Peter Dutton, leader of the Liberal National Party said this about Jim Chalmers, the Labor Chancellor who's the holder of a PhD from the Australian National University. He called him 'the so-called Dr Chalmers'. Tells you a lot. #education @ukcge.bsky.social #highereducation #PhD

Here's the public one in Darlington UK in which I discovered the magic. There was also the one that was upstairs at the back of Boots the Chemists. Yup, branches of Boots (a pharmacy to my US colleagues) had lending libraries in the shop. Check the story out here: www.boots-uk.com/newsroom/fea...

Just how old does Outlook think I am? This just popped up when I opened my calendar. Now, I know I'm no spring chicken, but do you think the Outlook calendar is taking the mick?

Lighting designers for rooms designated for Zoom meetings really do need to pay attention to the aesthetics. On the plus side, I did miss a phone call from The Pope the other day. I wonder if he'll call back? St Alistair of Light Square has quite a nice ring about it ...
