Pittsburgh Fire Chief Jones briefs media (2nd half of briefing, had another reporter's phone for the first half sorry). 44 units, 30 occupied, everyone out safe, building is total loss, defensive firefight b/c partial collapse made it unsafe to go in, this is going to continue burning for a while

Flames coming from both sides of the building roof now. This fire started around 8:30 this morning and they've been attacking it nonstop for nearly three hours

More aerial attack. It's a four alarm fire officially.

As a producer this is not my usual breaking news spot. This is much louder than the control room.

It is hard to explain how heavy the smoke gets. Zero visibility. The wind picks up every so often and sweeps it clear and then we see how intensely the building is burning.

We're standing next to the Lifetime auto center where residents are in the parking lot watching their homes burn down across the street.
