However, in the meantime I attended my first con (Further Confusion) in January 2005, and the first commission of my fursona to be *completed* was an at-con traditional badge, by a then-new artist now known as Kacey Miyagami (@kaceyfish.bsky.social). I was so excited to see it finished and wear it!

It was finished in February 2005 - some character details have slightly changed since then, but it's still pretty good! (The artist went by Melanee in communication with me, although signed another name that is hard to read: perhaps Rags?) I ended up paying for this by mailed check.

Two possible answers for that! In December 2004 I won an auction on FurBid for an illustration with background (for the grand sum of $11). I remember feeling like I was doing some deep forbidden thing when sending my character info and paying; I was very new to furry and had only met one other IRL.

Thankfully not! Just minor updates this year.
