Autumn, awesome trees!

Feel a sense of awe seeing the layers of colours and the tall trees reaching up towards the sky. So cool and vibrant.

It's important to imagine how a disabled person might be able to participate or do something independently/preserve their autonomy.

Privacy & autonomy are often taken away from people with access needs. Baked in assumptions can reinforce this.

How do we preserve autonomy and dignity in design?
Excerpt from Being Heumann by Judith Heumann Our peers from Europe complained about how their barriers were seen as purely medical, rather than an issue of human or civil rights. The basic question was about autonomy. Disabled people wanted to be able to live where they wished, get up and eat when they wished, and hire the personal assistants who helped them, provided they complied with laws regarding workers' rights and benefits, of course. When these supports were run from a medical approach they didn't necessarily support a person's ability to be autonomous, which is why our concept of independent living was so important and starting to permeate other countries' thinking. We started getting grants to compare state policies policies of specific European countries, developed an internship

I'm filling in a form intended for people with access needs but it only gives you the option to select you belong to one category.

This may be an accident by the form makers because it states 'please select all that apply' but you can only pick a single option.

Nice to see appreciation of gov.uk services on r/AskUK when asked 'what has improved in the UK in the last twenty years?'

One person wrote "So good for users and amazing for accessibility"

The next top voted after gov.uk was banning smoking indoors
Reddit post on r/AskUK with question: What has improved in the UK in the last 20 years? Top comment is: Anything related to personal management of government services: Passport applications, driving license renewals, self service tax functions, NHS records being immediately available in an app. The UK Gov is doing a lot to streamline services and I appreciate it. Look at countries like Japan and the difference is stark. A reply by another user reads: I've said it once and i'll say it again, the gov.uk site is the absolute gold standard for how a website should be. It's no supprise so many other companies chase the quality of digital service we have A reply from another user: I recently worked for a housing provider and suggested that we follow the gov uk website example, to just provide info and let people easily access the services they needed.
